Orienteering race 19:32 [4] 1.5 km (13:01 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

Surprisingly technical sprint set by Diane. A lot of tricky control locations. This allowed me to finish much higher than usual. Finished 9th out of 34. Several of the speed demons lost so much time, I was able to finish above them for a change. Temps were in the middle 60's, dry and a thick blanket of clouds.

Orienteering race 37:57 [4] 2.3 km (16:30 / km)

Longer sprint course set by Bruce. It featured almost constant change of direction which really kept you on your toes. Learned real quick not to trust the trails or vegetation boundaries on the map. Took only the contours and roads as gospel. Control 2 drove it home to me. Made a bad route choice on 14 to 15 which cost me. It will be interesting to see where else I lost time.

Walking 17:00 [1] 1.41 km (12:03 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

A cool wet day, most of the day was in the 50's. Looks like the cool weather will hold for the sprint tomorrow night.

CORE 5:00 [4]

First time doing Core since plantar fasciitis onset.

Other 5:00 [3]

Working out some tight muscles in my back

Walking 17:00 [1] 1.41 km (12:03 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Results posted from yesterdays meet. Only had lost time on one leg which was 4:40 from 5 to 6. Interestingly the next leg I won by 4:22. I think the information I learned from my weird route on 5 to 6 helped me on the next leg. I knew which route not to take!

Weights (weights) 5:00 [3]

I still have not been able to shake the sinus problems. The antibotics did not work. I will now try the herbal approach.

Orienteering race 1:30:43 [4] 3.5 km (25:55 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

Green Course at Camp Friedlander. Challenging Course set by Mike. The first 5 controls were a series of short technical legs. On my way to #1 went by an unusual looking building on the map, figured out it was a castle. Onto #6 which I went past the two BB gun shooting ranges and went up what was marked white on the map. I followed the creek and then a gully right to the control 6. From 6 I cut up to the road to a castle then to a pool. From the pool, I cut over to the spur to control 7. The only way to #8 was down a steep gully and then up a very steep hill at the gully/creek junction. From 8 I went to the grave yard followed the road until it ended. Then I went downhill on a spur that was quite open. It dumped me at the road entrance into the camp. Perfect! Crossed over the creek on the road and cut over to the spur that had #9 on a rootstock. I went past the ruin right to the rootstock. Ran into Matt about this time. Continued up to control #10, Matt and I met about the same time at the control coming from different angles. From 10 took a long cross country leg over several re-entrants and then down a steep hill. Matt and I were close to each other to control 11. Crossed the creek and took a gravel road to a water pump for control 12. I went on to #13 a large tree in the middle of an old creek bed. Onto the go control and then finish.
Very hilly course on a hot & humid day. Enjoyed it - thanks Mike

Rough River State Park

Another short period of mapping before my time was up and I needed to check out. I worked on the map South and East of the Shelters, got everything updated. Then I worked on a couple green areas I had just painted green and never really mapped. (All larger maps seem to have these for a variety of reasons.) I got these fully mapped which added a couple challenging controls.

Rough River State Park

When I started on the area west of the shelters the old golf course plus the area right on the lake, I realized their were so many changes I needed to go back to the base map & start over again. I thought about & realized that if I were to use this park for an A meet, I would do a sprint here. So I did a sprint map for that part of the park map. I quickly reached the max # of tracks on the GPS = 20. I took 201 waypoints then called it a night.

A lot of changes at the park, campground closed until the dam construction is completed. The county is no longer dry so you can order beer & wine with your meals.

Walking 37:50 [1] 2.82 km (13:25 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Packing for my annual trip to Paradise KY. I do an audit there each year and stop by Rough River State Park overnight. I up date the map each year and meet with all our contacts in that area.

A lot of changes on the map due to construction and the new disc golf course. I will be back on Friday night.
