Walking 17:14 [1] 1.41 mi (12:13 / mi)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Sweltering day gave way to storms afternoon & evening

Orienteering race 30:47 [3] 2.3 km (13:23 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2015

Sprint on U of L Campus. Heavy Thunderstorm caused a delay in the start for about 30 minutes. Small group tonight, it rained the entire time we were out on the course. It was so dark, I could not see the circles on the map. I had a very tentative run as a result (headlamp needed for my eyes or maybe a magnifier?) Well designed and thought out course.

Adventure Race race 25:00 [5] 0.6 km (41:40 / km)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Brutal portage down 300 M 200 foot drop, then back up after the boat part of the race. Only way I got my boat up was walking backwards pulling with both hands. Going down much easier than going up.

Adventure Race race 4:35:00 [4] 17.4 km (15:48 / km)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Adventure race at Carter Caves. 3.8KM paddle, 6.2KM bike and 7.4 KM on foot. Miscalculated in my planning so with one hour to go all the remaining controls were outside my 1 hr range. I finished at about 5 hrs.

I should have gotten controls 8 + 9 + 10 during the paddle. I would have needed to dropped the kayak and changed foot gear and then bushwacked to them. I was not really prepared for that. Need to think more clearly next time.

The race was organized as whatever mode you want use it, except no swimming. Since the lake controls were out in the lake you needed to use the boat for them. Overall had a great time! As in AR tradition, some controls at great vistas, Shangri Li Arch, Raven Bridge, Fern Bridge, near Smokey Hollow Bridge. First on the lake, interesting view from it. Only negatives 90+ hot & humid and the uphill portage.

Walking 34:06 [1] 2.82 km (12:06 / km)

Interesting note from last night. There was an option to take a tunnel from 2 to 3 that went under I-64. I debated on this but remembered the shriek from some creature I heard when I had tried it, when I added this section to the map.

I gave up about 90 seconds on that route choice but did not know what was in there still and had no desire to find out.
