Cycling 6:00 [3] 1.4 mi (4:17 / mi)
shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Home -> Pool
Sporting the new Lidl cycling helmet!
Still bitterly cold (about freezing point, but felt like -5C) - should've used the balaclava.

Swimming 40:24 [4] 2.0 km (20:12 / km)

Not expecting a particularly fast session after a two O event weekend, but arrived a little earlier than of late and had reasonable energy for this session.
Just within evens time at halfway point and on;y 24s outside 40minute target at the end, so fairly pleased.

Seemed quite a lot of traffic about, but managed to keep moving well in spite of it.
Balaclava for this trip - magic!
NB still cold.

Orienteering race 1:01:49 [4] **** 6.69 km (9:14 / km) +215m 7:58 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: VJ Falcon (2013)

Verdley Short Brown.
Final details had played down the extent of the brashings. Seemed just as bad to me as previously and dominated 90% of the course. Mud was also of a particularly sticky and slippery type.
Tried to keep a positive viewpoint and take care on bearings and resulted in a fairly successful (if physical) race. Didn't make too many mistakes. Possibly a bit too slow at times, but feeling tired from Angmering event the previous day and taking the early shift on childcare (ended up carrying E for about half an hour).

General shape of the area and detail in the terrain made it very promising (an almost Scottish type experience), but the brashings certainly detracted from the enjoyment and slowed progress down significantly (reflected in the course lengths).

Orienteering race 46:16 [4] 6.2 km (7:28 / km) +100m 6:54 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon (2013)

Angmering Blue.
Snowy start to the journey there with rather grim driving conditions. Turned to rain quite quickly as we travelled further south and west.
Very wet and slippery wood.
Yet another "spring" event where multiple layers and gloves were required for comfort.
Plenty of low lying brambles about.
A rare opportunity for A and I both to run at the same time (Gr and Grd having agreed to babysit).
More faffing getting ready than I wanted - just seemed slightly disorganised.
Took care on bearings and confirming map (after a deliberated decision not to use the specs due to the wetness in the air) - worked well and no huge errors, though not quite on line for a few controls - might've lost 30-60s over the course due to this.

Felt that I'd been going well, but surprised by the closeness of times of several of the others in the results - perhaps a bit lucky to get the useful positional result that I ended up with. Not quite as close to Kenny as I would've liked or expected (perhaps I was a couple of minutes off my normal pace after all), but very impressed by JC's result (sub 5min/km!!) - several leagues above me (and Kenny).

Running 32:38 [3] 6.5 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Saucony Trigon 5

Estimated distance.
Out a bit late (ten to one) so time limited.
Muddy off the paths.
OK-ish, but not motivated enough to particularly enjoy the run. Fair bit of variety, however, maintained the interest.
Route: Magpie Wood, Northgate playing fields, Memorial Park, Bus Station, Railway footbridge near station, GP footbridge, West Green, Sea Cadets.

(Via Lidl)
Quite loaded on final leg of journey).
Spotted the cycling gear in the specials bit of Lidl.
Helmet looked quite good - may return to get one (bargain at £9.99)

Very busy in the pool, making it difficult to keep a consistent pace.

Noted with interest all the telescopes set up in the playground by the Cr Astronomical Society. Seemed a bit optomistic given that as it was getting darker the sky was also starting to cloud over.
