Down to Memorial Stadium for a couple soccer matches. I think I will start telling some soccer stories here, because sometimes funny or interesting stuff happens. If you don't like it, get off my lawn log.

Anyway, orienteering came up in conversation with one of my colleagues; he was tickled by the concept in general and expressed interest for himself and his son. Unfortunately, now is not exactly the time of year when we have the most beginner-accessible events, especially where he lives (Tacoma area).

My ankle is definitely worse for wear after the weekend, but it is already feeling better today (Tuesday) than yesterday. And of course it is positive that I was able to race 15k on it Sunday without great detriment.

Junior Nationals long. An okay race; had a number of bobbles (12, 13, 15, 22) and didn't do well on the long legs, i.e. going through the quarry on 2-3 and 4-5, but also had a number of very good legs (2, 14, 20). A weird thing happened, which was that after leaving 12 I suddenly noticed an increase in energy, and I started consciously moving faster and shifting into attack mode instead of survival mode; sure enough, relatively speaking I lost noticeably less time to Greg and Jordan from that point till the end.

ahr:170 max:187 16c

Junior Nationals middle; this was a pile of steaming garbage from me. I blew over a minute on 1, at least another minute on 2, bobbled 3 and 4 even though they were short legs, and finally had a clean leg on 5, by which point I was questioning whether I even know what orienteering is anymore. But then later on I also did 8 and 9 well, so yay!

Running warm up/down 9:07 [2] 0.95 mi (9:36 / mi) +20m 9:00 / mi

Orienteering race 17:20 intensity: (3:04 @3) + (13:07 @4) + (1:09 @5) *** 3.19 km (5:26 / km) +47m 5:03 / km
ahr:170 max:183 12c

Junior Nationals relay. This was a lot better, though it hardly could have not been. I somehow ended up on a team with Gheorghe Fala and Jordan Laughlin, so we had zero points between the three of us and were a very illegal team.

Jogged the JWOC TT sprint course after the juniors were done. Only felt the ankle a bit when fully extended so hopefully will be good to go tomorrow when wrapped up tight.
