max:152

Seemed little easier than yesterday.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with Jarod. I got to push the sled up and back four times, and the usual dexterity and balance, in addition to weights for upper and lower body. I wore my HR monitor, and hope to see how it works after going to 9Round tomorrow.

Tuesday Apr 29, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

Leg session today. Harder than yesterday. I got into the over 90% MHR on two rounds.

Monday Apr 28, 2014 #

9Round 32:00 [4]

Went a little earlier than usual. Seemed a little easier than usual.

Sunday Apr 27, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned on doing sprints down the driveway, but took a nap instead. A long time since I took a nap and it felt really good.

9Round 35:00 [4]
ahr:129 max:143 weight:130lbs

Good workout. We did an extra round--Cotton-Eyed Joe was playing, and we did toe taps on the wall, and every time they Cotton-Eyed Joe, we got to throw in two decoys. Everyone was really glad when that song was over. Although the rest of the workout wasn't too bad, Round 6 was a killer and really got my heart rate up. I had to stay in plank position the entire 3 minutes, and did a jab, cross, hook, hook, on the heavy bag, then a plank jack. We were supposed to increase the plank jack by one every time through, but I got to five, unilaterally decided that was enough (my left toe was hurting) and stayed at five through the rest of the rounds.

Dog Walking 1:10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (17:30 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took the ElRay to Watkins Mill. Fastest walk yet with her. Except for several poop/pid stops and about a 5-minute break to play in Wilson Creek, we kept up a good pace.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Got to use my new heart monitor today during the workout. Pretty cool. You can see what you are doing on the monitor, then when you get home, it has already downloaded to your computer. Tells you the no. of MEP's, calories burned, etc., and gives you little graphs of how long you were in each zone. You can also wear it for exercise other than at 9Round.

Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

Lots of ab work today. Then I went back in the afternoon and picked up my new heart rate monitor. I hope to get it online tomorrow, so I can check my workout on Friday.

Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 #

9Round 31:30 [4]

Good workout. Worked on improving form during burpees and kicks.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

This week, my Wednesday workout with Jared happened on Tuesday. I did ropes and the sled again, plus some core twisting which will probably make me sore tomorrow. Still heavying up on the weights.

Monday Apr 21, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Seemed a little easier after a day off, but today was "whittle your middle" with lots of planks and situps. All ok except for the Russian twists with medicine ball. I'm working on my form on all of this, in particular, doing round kicks--get that knee higher.

Orienteering 25:00 [3]

Got to haul the controls and Easter Bunny treats around this morning to set up the O'Bunny. Beautiful weather, beautiful day, successful O'Bunny.

Saturday Apr 19, 2014 #

8 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

Today was a tough one. We did 30 seconds of burpees between each round, which gave me 4-1/2 minutes of burpees plus the planks and up-downs. The hardest round was picking up a tire and holding it over your head while doing walking lunges.
9 AM

Dog Walking 27:00 [2] 1.5 mi (18:00 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Since ElRay needed some one-on-one with her mom after doggy daycare yesterday, I took her to kickboxing, recycling, and then got her out to walk part of the Riverfront path. We went across all the school grounds to the road and then back. She is getting much better at dogwalking.

Friday Apr 18, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Dropped ElRay off a Doggy Day Care, then went to 9Round and did lots of burpees again today. Then home to do aerobic housecleaning without ElRay's help.
6 PM

Orienteering 35:00 [1]

Put out tapes for the O'Bunny.

Thursday Apr 17, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 35:00 [4]

Too many burpees. Otherwise a good workout. We had an extra round in which all wearing gloves got to punch the bag for an extra 3 minutes. Then I went shopping and out to lunch with my daughter.

Wednesday Apr 16, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Good workout today. Raised a good sweat, but didn't wipe me out like last Monday.
4 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Tonight we did both the sled (six trips across the gym) and the ropes, plus other stuff. I was tired, but still made it out to the garden tonight to do some planting and weeding.

Tuesday Apr 15, 2014 #

3 AM

Orienteering 40:00 [2]

Walked around looking for control locations for Sunday's O'Bunny. Lots of briars, and I picked up a tick.
9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Good workout today.

Monday Apr 14, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

It was a butt kicker today. Abs--lots of plank-like stuff.

Friday Apr 11, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

One station was really tough today and I could only do one half of it. One of the 5-foot cylindrical bags was on the ground and we were to get it in plank position and back it that way for about four feet, then go forward back to start and repeat for 3 minutes. I could do the forward in plank, but had to get on my knees to do the backward.

Thursday Apr 10, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [5]

Lots of different types of plank stuff really got me sweating. Like plank walking down the bag with dumbbell rows at each end, and planking on an exercise ball while alternating clockwise and counterclockwise circles.
10 AM

Dog Walking 35:00 [2] 2.0 mi (17:30 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

After 9Round, I walked ElRay at Jesse James Park. We practiced "stay close" and I cooled off my sweat with a brisk breeze.

Wednesday Apr 9, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [5]

Today was lots of arms--several hundred punches, different types of pushups, etc. I thought it was pretty intense.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with Jared. Finished up tonight by pushing the sled forward, then returning backward with the lower handles. A quad burner.

Tuesday Apr 8, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

Thought today seemed hard. Several new moves with medicine balls and burpees also.

Monday Apr 7, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

"Whittle your middle" Monday. I'm tired from the weekend, and the long ride back yesterday. We had lots of different types of planks.

Orienteering race 1:56:20 [4] 3.8 km (30:37 / km)
shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

Last day of the Flying Pig. The venue was the Mounds SRA, just like yesterday, but this part of the map was much nicer woods. I only got hung up in briars a few times. The boohoo aspect was that the nut holding my magnifier onto my compass fell off. I happened to notice this before I lost the magnifier, but I couldn't use it for the race.

Today I managed to do some stupid stuff. I spent 28 minutes try to find four. This was because I wasn't focused on what I was doing--I saw some other course's control here (and also on one other control) and got sidetracked. Analyzing my mistake, I think I looked too much at the trees and not enough at the forest. I will try to not do this again. I got really tired going up and down hills during that 28 minutes and I'm sure that slowed me down for the rest of the course.

Except for the distractions noted above, my navigation was pretty good, and route choices acceptable. I am really bummed, however, by control 4.

Orienteering race 1:54:45 [4] 4.2 km (27:19 / km) +75m 25:05 / km
shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

The good news was that today we had separate clue description sheets, and some of the mud had dried out. The bad news was that the briars and forest were really bad in lots of places. We also had a creek crossing holding a rope, with rushing water up to our knees.

I spent too much time going from 1 to 2. This was poor route choice through lots of bad brush, briars, etc. Going from 6 to 7 was not good; I was too far east, after wandering a little, realized it and zeroed in on the control. Overshot a little from 9 to 10, but this was a long-time mistake like I frequently make and I immediately adjusted.

Overall map reading was not too bad, but ducking and diving through the brush and trying to avoid the briars caused me to have trouble following a bearing.

Orienteering race 1:28:00 [4] *** 3.1 km (28:23 / km) +170m 22:17 / km
shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

Flying Pig--today was the middle distance at Bear Creek. Lots of rain for several days, including this morning. They had to close a road because of flooding, which caused those coming from the south to detour. The courses had to be changed at the last minute to avoid crossing flooded streams. We still had one crossing that was fairly deep, and there was lots of mud throughout the course. It made the steep hillsides very slippery.

Overall, I didn't do anything really stupid. I went a little too far north on the first control, because another control was there in a similar feature. When I found out that the blazing fast Swiss guy had made the same mistake, I felt better about it. The difference was that he got a mispunch, and I saw it was incorrect and went a little SE to the correct one.

Then I went too far down the hill going from 4 to 5, but realized my mistake and walked up the gulley to the control. Lastly, I picked a bad route choice from 10 to 11, and took a long time with the briars and the mud.

Overall, the good part was staying on the map and mostly making decent decisions. I also was strong enough to chug up and down the hills.

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

Lots of shoulder work today. Dripping in sweat, I came home and showered. I figured the boys would appreciate that when we drive to the Flying Pig together later today.

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Workout with Jared. About 15 minutes of footwork agility drills, then lot of upper body stuff. Got to do some sled pushing, then finished off with balance. Good day.
9 AM

9Round 31:30 [5]

Not sure why I got so out of breath this morning. We started with hopping on one foot across the gym, then hopping backwards to start. The do the same thing with the other foot and repeat for 3 minutes. After that, I was playing catch up. The last one was also tough, 10 plank jacks, 10 sit up with medicine ball, and repeat. Hope there is still something left for this afternoon with Jared.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Lots of leg work today. The exciting part was getting my Kick Butt t-shirt for my 50th session.
3 PM

9Round 1:10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (17:30 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took ElRay to Watkins Mill. We practiced "stay close" and I did some power walking. It all worked except for one squirrel where I got to get in th woods to take her off the tree. Fortunately, I have stated taking my Oral Ivy for the season.
