9Round 32:00 [4]

Today we did pushups between each round. The hard one (which I couldn't really do) was to stand on a Bosu trainer on one leg and do 10 triceps dips on the right, then on the left, then stand on the Bosu with both legs and do hammer curls (at least I could do that part) For the triceps dips, I kept sticking the toe from my opposite leg down so I didn't fall off.

Dog Walking 1:06:00 [3] 4.0 mi (16:30 / mi)

Watkins Mill. Didn't do much running, but did fast walking all the way around. Very humid, and no breeze at 0900.

Orienteering race 39:15 [4] *** 3.3 km (11:54 / km)
spiked:13/13c shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Sprint race today at Loose Park. I felt really good about both my navigation and my running. I managed to stay focused the entire time for a change, and, even though somewhat congested, mostly ran on the downhills (but mostly walked on the uphills). Need to do more running practice before the National Champs.

After the race, Dick, Paul, and I went to Panera's for lunch and club discussion.

Note

Missed out on my 9Round and also training with Jared this week, but I had lots of activity related to orienteering. Tuesday I put out another 12 controls for a Score-O, then picked up all 24, including Monday's, at the end of the day.

Wednesday was a killer. No controls to put out, but I walked all over the "back 40" six times, using a treasure hunt to learn compass bearings. Then, I spent a couple of hours putting up the maze for Thursday.

Thursday I put out the controls in the maze, sat most of the morning, and picked up controls, and all 67 posts from the maze, and hauled all this stuff back and forth.

Today I put out 14 controls for the Sprint Run with e-punch, then picked them up at the end of the day.

As in past years, most of the kids really enjoyed the week. Hopefully, the seed has been planted, and a few will get orienteer later in life.

Orienteering 2:30:00 [2]

Just a guess on the time. I put out flags for today's mapwalk, and then walked it with each group, so that made seven times around. This session is all first- and second-graders, so most of them have not done any orienteering before. On to Score-O tomorrow.

9Round 31:30 [4]

After getting home from 9Round (how many different ways are there to do planks?) I weeded in the vegetable garden for two hours. After cooling off a little, I plan to go out and do another couple of hours.

9Round 31:30 [5]

Rounds 1, 2, and 9 were killers, the rest were normal intensity, and we had Burpees between all rounds today. Actually, it was a relief to do Burpees some of the time. Round 2 was horrible--plank walking up and down on a bag ten times, then pulling knees into the bag ten times--whew! I need to get a lot stronger.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Seemed a little hard today. Mostly because repeating something unpleasant for an entire three minutes is taxing. Like holding the medicine ball over your head continuously while doing side kicks.
11 AM

Orienteering 55:00 [1]

Went to Raintree and walked around looking for good locations for the compass treasure hunt. Also made changes to the map to reflect last year's major changes to the main building and the playgrounds.

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Skipped 9Round this morning, and John helped me get my tablet working. I have been very frustrated with it, and he was too before we got things rolling. Then he went to Lawrence to spend the night at his sister's, and I went to see Jared and get in a workout.

Tuesday Jun 17, 2014 #

8 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Today was really a 4.5. Lots of squat and plank things, and we used medicine balls, kettle balls, a balance thingie, plus the bags. I sweated big time.

My son is visiting from Las Vegas, and I tried to get him to go with me, but he wimped out. The girls in the family must be the tough ones.

Monday Jun 16, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

Whittle your middle Monday, and we did pushups between all rounds. Lots of situps, planks, and crunches. Not too aerobic today, but I sweated enough to get sunscreen in my eyes, as usual.

Dog Walking 54:30 [3] 4.0 mi (13:38 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took ElRay to Watkins Mill. Weather was ideal, slightly overcast, around 70 degrees, but lots of wind, and very few people. She is getting really good about walking/running with me. We had two woman/dog drink stops, a proper greeting for Jill, and an opportunity to meet a recently rescued Golden Retriever.

When ElRay wants to stop and sniff, I tell her we're going to run, and like her Mom, she is ready to meet the challenge. I again increased my running time, although quite congested today.

Orienteering 34:53 [3] ** 2.6 km (13:25 / km)
spiked:11/11c shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Sprint run at the Jewish Community Center. Having a few breathing problems, so I couldn't run as much as last week, but being slow gives me an opportunity to make good route choices. Lots of fun, and Gene brought popsicles.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Today was Burpees between all rounds, but, otherwise not too bad. I started a new and different medication for my asthma this morning. It will probably take close to a week to decided whether it is better or worse.
5 PM

Dog Walking 23:00 [3] 1.5 mi (15:20 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took ElRay to Riverfront Park and walked from the tennis courts to the back road, turned around and walked back. Got to go up and down a couple of hills at a good pace. She continues to improve on her loose leash walking.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Not too hard today, but a lot of planks. I went earlier than usual because I had to be Bob's designated driver, so I saw different people than usual.

9Round 32:00 [5]

Today was a workout. We started out with the jump rope challenge at the first round, which got my HR into the mid-80's and it pretty much stayed there the entire workout.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Weekly workout with my trainer. Maybe I'm tired from this morning, but it seemed pretty intense, especially having to balance on one foot while doing several different weight moves.

Tuesday Jun 10, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

Really got my HR up today. We did a lot of things attached to squats, and had mostly aerobic stuff on the 30-sec between rounds.

Monday Jun 9, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Only got my HR up into the 80's for about 3 minutes, but we did all sorts of unpleasant plank things.

Sunday Jun 8, 2014 #

10 AM

Dog Walking 58:30 [3] 4.0 mi (14:38 / mi)

Took ElRay to Watkins Mill, and we both did well. Today I changed things up a bit by going counter-clockwise, and I wore my trail shoes instead of my GoRuns. We were under an hour including two potty and three drink stops. I'm jogging longer lengths, and taking fewer walk breaks. I need to try this with my GoRuns, and without ElRay.

Saturday Jun 7, 2014 #

10 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Lots of different types of plank things today.
4 PM

Orienteering race 41:31 [3] *** 2.8 km (14:50 / km)
spiked:22/25c shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Sprint race at Antioch Park in conjunction with the Annual Meeting. Controls 10-15 were in a forested area with many interlocking trails, so my navigation broke down a little. Otherwise, it was a good effort, and more running than I have done all winter.

Mary, Linda, and I went to a nearby sports bar to watch the Belmont Stakes, and in my absence, I got elected to the board. They were desperate for volunteers, I suppose.

Friday Jun 6, 2014 #

Note

The MyZone website got back up and I got my graphs from Wednesday night with Jared. As I expected, the HR went up and down, but you could definitely see the area when I was pushing the sled.
9 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

Angela is back again. I didn't get into the yellow until Round 7, but we did Burpees between each round today.

Thursday Jun 5, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Seemed a little easier today. My HR stayed in the mid-80's. Also, my lungs are clearing out--maybe all this rain will knock the pollen off the orchard grass.

Wednesday Jun 4, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [5]

Tough workout today, again with Brian. I hovered right around 87% of my MHR for most of the time.
3 PM

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Felt much better tonight compared to last week's session with my trainer. Doing quite well--then we go to push the sled, and he piled twenty more pounds on it. I pushed it the length of the gym, did five pushups, then pushed it back using the low handles. We did this four times. I did really well with the wall sits, while throwing and catching a medicine ball. My balance was a little off tonight--not sure why. I did remember to wear my HRM and it will be really interesting to see the graph tomorrow, especially the part of the workout when I was pushing the sled.

8 AM

9Round 31:30 [4]

No problem getting my heart rate up today. Brian was in charge today, and he is always tough. I was in the red for about 5 minutes, so I slowed down just a bit. Prisoner squats with shin kicks made 3 minutes seem more like 10. Also, trying to do 10 round kicks while standing on one leg.

Monday Jun 2, 2014 #

9 AM

9Round 32:00 [4]

Had a difficult time getting my heart rate up today, but no trouble with the sweat rate--I had plenty of that. Today we did pushups for the 30 sec. between rounds. Much better than Burpees.

Dog Walking 1:04:30 [3] 4.0 mi (16:08 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took ElRay to Watkins Mill for training--her training as well as mine. She is working on loose-leash walking, so I am cuing her with "heel". Then when we sprint, it is "free". She did really well except that she loses her mind when she sees a squirrel. We also stopped and visited a while with a friend I hadn't seen in a while, and she behaved well. Maybe our teen-age angst year is behind us.

I am breathing much better than last week, but still have some congestion. I did longer sprints today.
