Orienteering 2:27:01 [4] *** 4.0 km (36:45 / km) +150m 30:57 / km
spiked:7/11c shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

First day at Taylorsville Lake State Park, Kentucky, a part of the Kentucky Outdoor Games. I made two very stupid mistakes today. I had a plan for the first control, but couldn't see it where I thought it should be in a ditch, so I continued west through three more ditches, then knew exactly where I was again, and it was wrong, so I went back and found it where I had originally looked, and burned 22 minutes.

The next three were fine. Then I made the stupidest move. I had a good plan, got to a ruined fence about 60 meters west of the control, but had a brain lapse, and went south along the ruined fence. When I realized I was going in the wrong direction, I wasn't sure where I was, relocated, and still couldn't find it. I relocated once again, decided if I couldn't find it, I would DNF, but got it. This took 33 minutes. Of course, I was walking all this time, and it was very steep, so I was getting tired.

I spike the next few controls, and then at the next to last, had to search around in the high weeds for a few minutes. This was a really bad day.

Middle distance at Big Bone Lick State Park, Kentucky. Took wrong turn on trail, but realized almost immediately and went back and got the control. The first four controls were in an area with lots of thick weeds, almost up to my shoulder, so I couldn't see the flags. I went from 1 to 4, then missed 2 again and relocated. I finally got it after 14 minutes, then had some trouble getting 3 and also finding 4 again. After that I did fine with the rest of them. I walked the entire course, trying to baby my knee.

9Round 32:00 [4]
shoes: Skechers GoFit

Went to 9Round early to get in a workout, as I will be sitting in a vehicle most of the day. This week has really worked out the arms.

The last round today was a killer. Ten pike to pushups, followed by ten Russian twists, and repeat for 3 minutes. I had to stop and get my breath a few times.

Workout 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: INOV8 TrailRoc 235

Worked out tonight with Jared, and he picked up the pace (and used heavier weights) since I told him I was feeling much better. Lots of challenging stuff to do.

Yoga 32:00 [4]
ahr:113 max:133 shoes: Skechers GoFit

Didn't get my heart rate up so much, but we surely had lots and lots of squats and pushups.

Dog Walking 25:34 [3] 2.3 km (11:07 / km)
shoes: INOV8 TrailRoc 235

Took Elray to Jesse James Park, since we haven't been there in a while. Temperature was 83 degrees, and we had a few drops of rain. It was VERY windy. I tethered Elray, and we made really good time going around.

When I got home, I called Customer Support for my Surge, and this is the best customer support I have ever encountered. I found out how to change my Surge to metric.

9Round 32:00 [4]

Part of the time my HRM wasn't working, and I thought this was harder than the numbers indicate. Lots of Burpees and up-downs.

Yoga 1:28:00 [0]

Restorative yoga. We used tennis balls to roll the fascia in our legs for the first time tonight. And I managed to get my legs up the wall.

Orienteering 57:00 [3] 2.47 mi (23:05 / mi) +100m 20:30 / mi
shoes: INOV8 TrailRoc 235

Combo orienteering and walking Elray. She loves going on the trails, and I had a couple more controls to mark, including a new one to replace a trail junction I can no longer find since they bulldozed the area for the reenactment.

Elray had a new experience. We saw a smallish black snake on the trail, and she sniffed it really well. When she headed toward the mouth end, I did a "leave it" and hauled her off. On the return trip, she knew the exact location where it had been, and wanted to hang around there. She is also much better at jumping over down logs than I am.
