Orienteering race 35:16 [5]
COC middle distance
First the good:
I ran the fastest time on the course despite not feeling like I had a particularly good run. Some sections went okay but I missed the flow for a good part in the middle of the race and for some of the last loop.
It was a picturesque setting on a horse farm with a great arena and spectator control. The weather was awesome and the BBQ was great!
The terrain was nice with good features and a dense trail network.
On the other hand...
I was disappointed in the print quality and what I would call 'lazy' cartography with cliffs and contour lines not lining up. The print quality kept you from reading the 'cut line / ride' symbol easily on the run. This wouldn't normally be a problem except Ottawa in August is pretty green and the cut trails were recently mown freeways. I also feel that the M21E course had about 4 or 5 controls too many. It could be more interesting, with the same direction changes and distance with less hassle. As it was, it felt a bit like a 5k control picking exercise.
