Orienteering 1:36:48 [4] *** 10.9 km (8:53 / km) +495m 7:14 / km
spiked:10/24c shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

M21L at Wendover Woods and VM selection race. Absolutely knackering... and technically very bitty, not smooth into controls at all, bobbled far too many. Could well have been the effect of the hills.

Went under 100 which was the aim, longest 'run' since the summer tour. Certainly felt it, even had to walk on the finish split :-O

Cycling 26:00 [3]

To the bottom of Shotover. Didn't feel that great up Morrell Avenue...

Orienteering 1:02:40 [3]
shoes: 2006 VJ Falcons

Part of the Shotover control pick I first did in April, going the other way round. Aim was to go for about an hour. Didn't feel at all good at the start, running was a real effort and the map in the west still doesn't seem right. About half an hour in started to ease up and flow a bit better, probably because I was in a nice bit, but then got back into some grottier stuff and things didn't feel right again, made some silly mistakes. Not really the mindset you want to be in just before the selection race...

Cycling 23:00 [1]

Back home down the hill, good to be able to freewheel after that...

Note

Shin is certainly hurting again, not a sharp pain but feels more tender to the touch after having run on it. Not going to run until Sunday, in the meantime plenty of stretching/strengthening exercises. Why do I get the feeling that my body is never going to let me reach what I'm capable of??

Run - off road (steady run) 35:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks

Easy Run - was going to go to the Parks but seeing Portmeadow was on route, that won. Across to the bottom of the nature reserve, complete loop around the outside, then part terrain/part path loop before back to bike. Had map of Anagach with me, trying to read the contours on the run wasn't particularly easy, partly as there aren't many obvious tags and also as they seem a bit thinner than those on a normal map...

Left foot was aching quite a bit as couldn't get it comfortable in shoe over the uneven terrain, so cut the run shorter than I'd originally planned - will only wear these shoes on flat stuff in the future.
