biking 2:02:02 [3] 77.09 km (1:35 / km)
ahr:121 max:159 rhr:42 slept:6.0

Club road ride: some nice hills.

Left elbow bothering me due to a spontaneous bursitis swelling that occurred last night - I've been through this before during my rugby days and it usually means an aspiration of fluid is in my future. Reduced ROM due to swelling and pain. Riding my road bike was interesting as any jarring/bumps made me realize maybe I shouldn't be riding ;-)

Mountain bike is still in the shop awaiting a seal kit for my front forks.

biking 2:05:48 [3] 59.35 mi (2:07 / mi)

Easy road ride.

My mtn bike is in the shop to overhaul the shocks and I was hoping to get some time in the saddle on single track this weekend 'cept a blown seal did me in.

Commute to work via Mt Doug Park.

Right ankle was quite sore from the bike spill from yesterday - edema and point tenderness on the medial malleolus. Doesn't appear to be any intra-articular joint problems though...I'll see how this feels when running tomorrow.

biking 1:01:04 [3]

Hartland single track - lots of climbing.

Did an endo on a steep, rocky descent: the proverbial A** over teakettle with my bike getting tangled up in my arms and legs. I left some skin back on the mountain and more blood than I wanted too but the important thing was that my bike was ok ;-)

Adventure Race race 5:04:14 [4] 45.0 km (6:46 / km) +1300m 5:54 / km
slept:5.5 shoes: Montrail Continental Divide

I enjoyed the MOMAR Squamish race course as it was new territory for me and a chance to explore an area I had travelled through, but never explored.

The course design featured many distinct areas of Squamish and as is the trend in racing in 'wilderness' next to urban areas, the race course finished in town and highlighted local race sponsors as CP's.

Without a paddling section, the RD incorporated more vertical and linear distance to make up for the usual MOMAR paddling length of 8 - 12 km.

As Urthbuoy mentioned, there was questionable placement of a couple of CP's: from a distinct orienteering perspective, having an educated guess as to where to look seemed pointless. In fact, there were a few racers that left without punching the control after a couple of minutes of looking in the area, convinced the CP had been mischieviously taken down (this was an expensive sixty minute penalty decision as it turns out....)

I wasn't too fast on my feet and I was holding Urthbuoy back during the trek. I've been on my bike quite a bit and had good legs for the bike sections.

The Rappel was surprisingly enjoyable: I was expecting a bottleneck at this discipline however it was free and clear when Urthbuoy and I arrived. The Race Director had put the rappel well into the race with the expectation of the contingent being spread out by the time they came onto the 'abseil' with little or no wait time.

Other than that, I had a great time, despite being the bane of Urthbuoys existence during the eve of race paddle down the Mamquam River with me playing the role of support and being at the wrong s take out spot. What was supposed to be a quick paddle and take out for him turned into a mini cross-Squamish adventure in paddling gear and neoprene booties as he walked in the dark along the higway for 4 km back into town in the hopes of spotting me along the hiway.

I was resolute in my belief I was on the river not realizing I was on a slough ( I was close enough to Howe Sound to think the lack of current on what I thought was the river was a high tide slacking off) and therefore waited and waited while the sun went down and there was no Urthbuoy. The usual back and forth scrambling took place and I was just about ready to file my 'missing paddler' report to the police when we were able to connect.

Lessons were learned, 'nuff said ;-)

Hi cadence just to spin the legs out after driving to Squamish - ferry wait and then slow traffic from Horseshoe Bay to Squamish...Camping at Alice Lake. Rode from the campground into Squamish to see G and connect with other racers hanging about.

Commute to work

Run 23:33 [3]

Not much time to run today - will try to get something in later, post work. Either that or bike.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1]

biking 15:46 [1]
ahr:109 max:148

Easy ride home with work buddy.

Now...gotta get ready for MOMAR - packing and figuring what to wear that will accent my girlish figure.

The plan is to meet up with Urthbuoy at the Horseshoe Bay terminal for 2-3-ish tomorrow, drive to Squamishand set up camp @ Alice Lake Prov Park, then head down to registration and take in the festivities - take some pix for Sleepmonsters.ca and maybe some quicky interviews.....

Note
rhr:42 slept:6.0 (rest day)

Rest day: I found it difficult to not get on my bike today or run for that matter thinking I should be doing something active. However, I stuck to my game plan and didn't train.
I had a session of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy for my L Achilles tendon as well as ART and that seemed to help relieve some of the acute pain and it has settled down - I'll test it Tuesday on a brief run.

rhr:42 slept:6.0 shoes: Brookes Cascadias

Three hour Rogaine at Camp Thunderbird.
I knew I wasn't going to get all the CP's (no one did) and the ones I did bag were fairly straightforward - I lost concentration on the easier CP's which led to my biggest errors.

biking 12:00 [3]
rhr:42 slept:6.0 weight:73.5kg

Commute to work; Will ride at lunch in lieu of the office food day/bbq/krispykreme fest - don't tempt me soooooo!

biking 1:32:34 [3]
ahr:136 max:165 rhr:42

Lunch time plans to ride were scrapped due to rain, so I opted to stay in my office and eat a processed bean burito and some yogourt, eschewing the vast array of baked goods, chips and krispy kreme dognutz.

The weather cleared after work and I did my planned observatory climb, then meandered via Interurban into town then home along the Goose.

Legs felt heavy and my cadence was struggling to keep high.

Spinning 1:00:00 [3]

Not much of a day for training...drove up island to Courtenay then back home. Took my road bike hoping to ride up to Mt Washington for a hill climb, but the weather was against me.

Strength 20:00 [1]

Back and abs. My stretching is helping my low back (somewhat) and that tight feeling is gradually lessening. I"m still tight in my hammies and Achilles.

My cycling guru is trying to get me to try his Power Cranks that he swears by - they are independant cranks that integrate a one way clutch in each crank arm which will increase peddle efficiency via strengthening hip flexors and hamstrings by constant 'one legged' peddling.
That's one more toy I'll defer purchasing - besides....the cranks will cost more than my bike.

I got up eary to spin for an hour but my 9 year daughter came downstairs and chastised me for waking her up at 0445 - she was sleeping in the living room directly above me as I have my sisters over and they're in my kids bedrooms forcing the young'uns to sleep on the living room pull out couch - so she heard the whine of the trainer with my usual grunts and knees crackling as I started my warm up. She was not impressed. I pedalled for maybe 7 minutes before waking her up and making her grouchy....I mean, hey....my little princess has school today...how could I be so inconsiderate?? ;-) My 13 yr old son could have been sleeping with his head next to the trainer and not been disturbed.
