Observatory: up and down once, then saw my riding team ride by and hitched onto the them. Up = 6:59.

biking 34:14 [3] 18.09 km (1:54 / km) +127m 1:50 / km

Was planning on hill repeats. Did one so-so effort at the Observatory, then saw the IRC boys ride by at the bottom of the hill on W Saanich - decided to latch onto the pack and rode back to the garage/beer haven. Much better choice.

Hard race for me tonight....didn't have it in the legs and couldn't keep the power up the hill climb each lap - that's where a bunch of us lost the pack.

Warm up for OB Crit

biking race 37:10 [5] 25.4 km (1:28 / km) +13m 1:28 / km
ahr:155 max:169

Woke up feeling good, legs were ready and willing, as was my motivation.

I enjoy the OB crit as it's fast and the riding is good.

Raced the A's. Good race with ok legs and lungs up until I flatted.

Was 4th, 5th in the train when the rear wheel went on the backside of the course....got out of the way of the pack unscathed, then ran across the infield to repair/replace. Was able to get a spare wheel from Ginny, threw it on and waited for my push off (free lap for mechanical issue). I was pushed out at the wrong time by the timing official/lap counter and I wasn't paying attention to where the pack was (I should have been pushed out just ahead of the pack to be able to regain my position when the flat happened).....I took a couple of pedals, the rear wheel was rubbing, got off, centred the wheel and started pedaling...I was caught by the commissar on the lead moto and then told to get off the course (any rider lapped by the field was taken off). My conversation with the commissar did not go well as I was trying to explain my situation/mechanical ...however it was pointed out that from their perspective, I was so far off the back of the pack the I was loosing time and was going to be lapped. Tried to explain this was because I was trying to rejoin due to the mechanical, but I was told to get off, so I did. Commissar 1, Doug 0.

The timing official and moto/commissar later came up to me to apologize as the the moto offiicial was not aware of my situation and mistakenly took me off. Should have kept riding.

biking warm up/down 28:06 [2] 12.62 km (2:14 / km) +139m 2:07 / km

Ride to Caleb Pike for VCL

biking race 1:04:27 [3] 37.6 km (1:43 / km) +547m 1:36 / km
ahr:162 max:176

VCL Caleb Pike - not a good race....lost my legs about mid way and thus lost the pack. Trailed off and just wanted to finish and not DNF.

biking warm up/down 50:26 [2] 24.56 km (2:03 / km) +142m 2:00 / km
ahr:137 max:157

This did not feel good. I was bonked and needed fuel post race and had to laze around the millstream 5bux for protein/carbo intake. Ride home was miserable (forgot my backpack at 5bux and had to return).

biking (Mtn Bike) 51:29 [3] 10.03 km (5:08 / km) +308m 4:27 / km
ahr:133 max:172

Quick ride on Hornby....Ridge trail to 4 dead aliens, hell's kitchen, test tube, no horses, colts foot and a few others. Rainy and muddy on the ride up, however the 'down' was fast and flowy; rode my son's free ride bike - so much smoother on the technical stuff as opposed to my hard tail.

Run (Trail) 57:30 [3]
shoes: La Sportiva

Ridge Trail on Hornby with my daughter: she enjoyed the run - a bit windy, drizzly with cloud enveloping us on summit of Mt G....good on her!
1 PM

Paddling 1:20:25 [3]

Surfski: frrom Whaling Stn Bay to Flores Island, then westerly along the coast until it began to get a too squirrly with the wind and waves...I backtracked to Flores Island and got in the lee of the island to rest, then played in the tidal current and waves and watched an elephant seal give me the evil eye, then back to Whaling Stn Bay...was supposed to meet the family in Tribune Bay, however prudence on the water thwarted that plan.

Unfortunately, cell coverage on the island is sporadic for Rogers customers and I wasn't able to get ahold of them to advise I turned back and to pick me up at Whaling Stn, so this caused a bit of concern when I didn't arrive.

Instead of hanging around in the wind and rain at Whaling Stn, I ran towards Tribune along the road in my Five Fingers and caught up with my son who had the van who was coming to look for me.

All is good.

Run 20:20 [3]

Lazy run in my five fingers and paddling shorty with tech top.... I wanted to keep warm and opted to run from Whaling Stn to Tribune....was met by my son driving the van who came to look for me.

Stiff and sore. Bilaterla Achilles bothering me and R side low back; this did not make for a smooth run - took about 30 minutes to start to feel comfortable.
