Caleb Pike Crit: - not a flat course, but with good elevation change.

Not much of a turn out so we blended with the fastees, which pushed the pace. I missed a key moment to jump onto a break with the A group when I was on the inside of the pack and couldn't get outside to sprint after them - this eventually cost me two places as I wasn't able to get onto the wheel of the last rider. I watched as this group pulled away and had to back off as I wasn't going to be able to close the widening gap without assistance from other riders to help paceline.

I got my lungs back, then settled in for a couple of laps, then the group I was with started to blow apart. As well, some that were with the A group fastees break away were starting to lag. I pulled away from my group considering there was no concentrated effort to push the pace or share the load. I was able to pick off a few riders and Roland jumped onto my wheel to catch his breath - fine with me cuz once he recovered we pace-lined to put even more distance from the following pack - we worked well together and picked off a few more, creating a larger paceline.

This paceline worked well but this too dwindled to me, Roland and Jim?
With two laps to go, Roland dropped and it was me and the youngster battling it out....he got me in the uphill sprint after he slingshot past me in the downhill to flat/uphill transition while I was pedaling @ about 128RPM in my small cog - I was able to catch up in my standing sprint and draw even with him, but just couldn't keep the pace.

As it turns out, 5th place. Most of the B group DNF'd due to the increased race pace.
