Woke up feeling good, legs were ready and willing, as was my motivation.
I enjoy the OB crit as it's fast and the riding is good.
Raced the A's. Good race with ok legs and lungs up until I flatted.
Was 4th, 5th in the train when the rear wheel went on the backside of the course....got out of the way of the pack unscathed, then ran across the infield to repair/replace. Was able to get a spare wheel from Ginny, threw it on and waited for my push off (free lap for mechanical issue). I was pushed out at the wrong time by the timing official/lap counter and I wasn't paying attention to where the pack was (I should have been pushed out just ahead of the pack to be able to regain my position when the flat happened).....I took a couple of pedals, the rear wheel was rubbing, got off, centred the wheel and started pedaling...I was caught by the commissar on the lead moto and then told to get off the course (any rider lapped by the field was taken off). My conversation with the commissar did not go well as I was trying to explain my situation/mechanical ...however it was pointed out that from their perspective, I was so far off the back of the pack the I was loosing time and was going to be lapped. Tried to explain this was because I was trying to rejoin due to the mechanical, but I was told to get off, so I did. Commissar 1, Doug 0.
The timing official and moto/commissar later came up to me to apologize as the the moto offiicial was not aware of my situation and mistakenly took me off. Should have kept riding.
