Note
Today was the day the City Race finally happened. I wasn't running as my car and I were helping out with the organisation. However, I spent most of the time marshalling the end of the taped route in Christ Church Meadow. People would run past me and then turn left at the nearby track junction to head up towards Corpus & Merton.
Anyway, below is a marshall's-eye-view of the race:
* About 12 people ran past the track junction, realised their mistake and turned back.
* One person ran past the junction, stopped, continued heading past it and only when an audience said 'nnooooo' did he head the right way.
* One guy ran past the junction and didn't come back!
* One filthy Tab was following another filthy Tab.
* One guy ran the wrong way, came from Merton and headed towards St Aldates.
* Two people ran the length of the taped route three times: along it once, back to the control they had missed, and then back along it again.
* Twice I had to explain the race to Joe/Joanne Public.
* One orienteer wore jeans.
* I took one photo and was in another one. Japanese tourists, don't you just love them?!
* I had to discourage a camera crew from filming across the route the runners would take.
* Two people said 'thanks' for standing around in the cold. Well it wasn't that cold for me as I was in the sun!
