Rånässtafetten - Open 7 Another nice day for orienteering, in the sun this time - but I could feel from the start (and before) that my leg was not very strong today. Managed to keep about the same pace as yesterday even if the terrain wasn´t as pleasant. A lot of green stuff - both standing and lying on the ground made it harder to both run and orienteer.
No major mistakes though even if I was drifting off a bit more today. Slow running makes it easier to catch... Biggest time loss was after going straight through a dark green patch instead of going around when I lost my direction for a while and hesitated a bit before finding control #10.
My running was not as pleasant as yesterday and I was limping quite heavily in the end :(

Warm-up jog/run to the start after making my time frame a bit tight. I had planned to walk most of the way but had to run instead. Feeling OK for a few steps only then my running was very much affected by my weak leg/knee into limping even when trying not to.

Lännamedeln - H65 First start in my new age category - H65. Was very close to missing my start time but managed to sneak through the first two one minute stops and reach my correct start gate about 5 seconds before the whistle.
Being in a hurry I didn´t remember to pick up my loose control decriptions though so I stopped at #1 and tore off the one printed in the corner of the map. Wouldn´t have been necessary but gives you a bit more flow around the controls not having to turn the map around and check codes.
Running feels much less constrained in the forest - even if it affects me - but of course it´s very slow. Nice to get out though and also to feel that my map reading is still there. More or less full map contact the whole way - much easier at my speed - which is very satisfying since it´s easy to pick up and correct when you drift off ever so slightly.
Not necessarily pleased with my time since I would like to be faster, but I guess I´ll have to accept my present limitations. 15min/km is what I´m capable of right now with a hope of cutting down to 12-13 later this spring.
Staying over night with a small group from the club in a youth hostel in Alsike close to the site for tomorrows´ relay (same as last years´ Tiomila).
More 10mila stuff. The new bar code readers finally arrived today and I had them installed and checked with our software, so now they should work properly for checking maps and courses.

Veteran-OL, KGoIF - H2 First Tuesday Veterans´ race of the year. I hope to make this a regular event to get my orienteering/running in between all the alternative training.
Birgit worked late so we went together to Mellsta in the awful weather - pouring rain and a bit chilly - for an early start. No time for showers and socializing afterwards this time though - which is usually part of the reason for going.
Running and orienteering felt OK , no real power in my legs but better than expected - at least in the beginning. No major mistakes until the very end - the area is really tricky with an abundance of small trails, bigger trails, ski tracks and wider rides to make for a very confusing setting.
Minor problems to get into the map after the start so the first control was a bit slow then everything was fine until #12 and #13 that I messed up due to directional errors. A total of maybe 5 minutes could have been cut from my time if I had been more careful.
