Huge day.

Was out setting up from 7am and only homea t730 with 5 minutes to turn around and get back out door for my dads 70th dinner - eventually made it to bed at 11 shattered and feeling ill.

My fitness and lungs have taken a beating over last 7-8 weeks and today (sunday) I have felt rubbish sick wise after yesterday. oh well its been an exceptionally long week so hopefully some respite this week.

Anyway setters perspective on the two races.
Rogaine went very well and I think a few concerned people where soon silenced with the overwhelming positive comments from the racers about something different and fun - the course was very well received and the controls which may have been contentious e.g the swim leg and the mobile control ended up being better than expected. the swim leg was the second highest visited control only 6 teams missing it!

A few small mistakes (2 misplaced circles) - just off center - one wasnt too bad as you ran past the clue regardless the other could have been better! a few other small hiccups but nothing major - overall happy with how it all ran even if I died in my ass on the bike!

The orienteering - was really hoping there would be some more people around to help - kinda was left to my own devices which given it was my first time running a metro was a bit unnerving - didnt put out blue cards?! oops and I did my best on the pricing all a bit frazzled when youve got a clue and people saying we are a team with juniors but we are shadowing or if they are 1 adult and 1 junior but not shadow... anyway whatever did my best to get it right!. Godsend was ricky who jumped in the seat 10 mins after start and ran with it from there which freed me to sort out logistics of other stuff until the end.

Again quite positive feedback from the O community wasnt sure if the course was going to be challenging enough or give enough route choice but it seems I got that right which I was happy about.

Re putting the two together. I think there was some people who wanted to do both but when they finished the rogaine where tired/too hot and pulled pin. heat certainly played a factor on numbers but apart from being nice to have both communities seeing each other finish/start are cross over I dont know if the stress of co-setting and co-locating was worth it. Dont know if each event would have got more though if it was sat/sun instead... Heat was main issue.

Anyway thanks for everyone who came down and enjoyed themselves and double thanks for those who helped out on the day! I certainly slept last night and will again tonight

interesting drive this afternoon had a young child wander out onto the road I was driving along all of 2 car lengths from me when I was going 50km/hr... some serious evasive driving saved that childs life and seriously endangered mine... no parents to be seen.

Oh this was shortly having to overtake an indigenous mother on her mobile with 4 unrestrained children in the back and 1 possibly restrained?! in the front.

... after this 15 minutes later I was watching someone take the details of the driver who had rear ended them at a traffic lights (whilst waiting at the traffic lights) only to get rear ended by a panel van myself... low speed so visually looked like no damage however on close inspection at home there is a very minor indent on my boot where the handle is - matter of millimetres which is visible only when boot is opened... not sure its worth the pain of the claim - will see if my lower left back/hip (which ceased when jolted) are sore in the morning before I make up my mind.

Still got green shit coming out of me in the mornings - seems to be getting less which is a positive.
