orienteering 4:00:49 [3] 26.2 km (9:11 / km)

sooo... hudson highlander... my goodness gracious me. what an adventure. my legs were just kinda shot from 3 days of training like a frenchman but i still managed to make it up all the hills and not get totally lost from being so light-headed. the first section was just 6 controls over a very large distance. it took me 70:50 just to get to the trail run. then from there i just had to keep chugging along the trail alllll the way back to the map exchange which in itself took 39:51. from control 7 to 19 it was just a normal point to point course with lots and lots of climb. on the way to 8 i was looking 9 which made for a bit of a dilemna and then contouring to 17 and 18 would've been a tad trickier if Nickolay hadn't been there. The last map was definitely the hardest because i was sooo hungry and my legs felt soo tired. i basically just stumbled along through the woods trying to avoid climb and just thinking about the food at the end. I missed 22 by a couple contours and then 23 i decided to go to the bottom of the cliff even though the control was on a rock pile at the top of it... yeah oopsy daisies. after that though i survived and made it back on rather wobbly legs but at least i was all in tact. my mother will be happy i'm not missing any part of me :)

orienteering 1:21:00 [3]

saturday was absolutely gorgeous!!!! thierry set a 2-person relay course and I got to run with Matthieu which was definitely not a stacked team despite what others might say. There were 3 loops to start which everyone had to run and i did really well on all of them. legs were shaky but my orienteering was pretty good and the pressure of not letting down france kept me going up the hills. :P The last loop was only 800m and the two leading teams of Jean-Baptiste and Matthieu went out at the same time. It was so intense but Jean-Baptiste came in first with Matthieu just a little ways behind. The start was really well placed at the top of a hill so that the spectators could see runners coming in and it was easy to find for runners coming in :P we could also just listen for Ross cheering though :P definitely a very exciting race!!! :)
12:48 first lap
12:06 second lap
and then i forgot to take splits after that.

running 40:00 [3]

warmup led my François and running back to the parking lot.

orienteering 38:11 [3]

in the afternoon we ran the men's woc short distance race. i totally blew up control 1 by wandering around in the green before Jon caught up to me. :S i was flustered going to 2 and was walking the fine line of messing that one up too but i actually made it there alright. after that it went great. the rocky ground was icky to run on and i bruised my ankle on the way to 11 :( it was definitely not a stellar preformance in woc but thierry sure did well!! it was pretty amazing to see him blast out of the woods and sprint down the "finish chute".

i have splits but 1-3 are consolidated because i was more worried about finding the controls than getting splits.
