Running 58:08 [3] 10.5 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Bridges from East Perth (ABC) with complete lap of Heirisson Island. Felt a bit stiff, and at one stage the right calf felt about to seize up, but I stopped and stretched it, and afterwards it was ok. All kangaroos present and correct (6), and posing for tourist photos. Almost dark as I finished the lap of the Northern part of the Island - must try to start earlier over the next few weeks.

Running 39:41 [4] 8.0 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Usual Kings Park lap, had thoughts of taking it easy for around 40 mins, but in the end it was a struggle to achieve.

Orienteering race 1:09:01 [3] **** 6.87 km (10:03 / km)
spiked:10/14c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Standard event H3 course at John Forrest NP, advertised course length was 5.6km, surprising because I thought I went pretty straight. Errors at 5 (3mins) and 7 (2mins), a little bit offline at 3 and 11. Not able to run very easily at any stage due to shin-knee high vegetation. 4th, about 5mins down.

Road cycling 1:40:00 [3] 45.0 km (2:13 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Same ride as Apr 4, except that Barrack St was closed for Anzac Day, so continued on to Causeway then back through East Perth. Pearl of Highgate's danish were really good today (as was my coffee, as per usual).

Orienteering race 21:35 [5] *** 4.17 km (5:11 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Nav-Dash race at Hale School, should have been under 20 mins but for going straight from 6 to 8, had to go back to 7, then do 8 again - cost me almost 2 mins.

Thursday Apr 23, 2009 #

Running 47:48 [3] 9.0 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Bridges and S. Heirisson loop, kangaroos (6) quite close to the path.

Tuesday Apr 21, 2009 #

Running 39:00 [4] 8.0 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Kings Park lap, faster first half but ran out of puff on the last couple of hills.

Sunday Apr 19, 2009 #

Running 38:16 [3] 7.5 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Low impact run in kings park - first run since 3 days, felt pretty good but didn't push the pace - wait until tuesday!

Note

I don't log walking as I do so much of it when working. However, thought I would just make a list of the longer walks in Tasmania over the past 10 days:

7 Apr (pm) - Hobart: Sandy Bay to Salamanca & back via Battery Point (3km)
8 Apr (am) - Sandy Bay to Hobart centre via Battery Point & Docks & back (4km)
8 Apr (pm) - Organ Pipes walk at Mt Wellington (3km)
9 Apr (am) - Fluted Cape walk at Bruny Island (6km)
9 Apr (pm) - Sandy Bay to Salamanca & back (3km)
15 Apr (am) - Wineglass Bay at Freycinet, returning via the Hazards (12km)
16 Apr (am) - Mt Brown & Crescent Beach from Remarkable Cave (near Port Arthur - 10km)
17 Apr (pm) - Battery Point to Queens Domain via Salamanca and Docks & back(5km).

Finally, not walks at all, but must give these honourable mentions:
http://www.brunycharters.com.au/tour.aspx?page=cru... - fantastic cruise alongside the Bruny Island cliffs. Saw sea eagles, albatross, seals, blowholes, sea caves and stacks, and lots of other things. Entertaining commentary, first class seamanship, lots of photos & memories.
http://www.moorilla.com.au/thesource/ - excellent 2hr lunch on our way to Hobart airport - a great way to finish the holiday!

PS Didn't see a single boot camper in Tassie - is it a personal trainer-free zone I wonder?

Orienteering race 41:20 [4] ***** 4.4 km (9:24 / km)
spiked:12/15c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Easily the best area and course of the 3 days, and my best run. Stuffed the first control, losing a minute, and expected Ernst (Swiss) starting behind to catch me, but apparently he made a very similar mistake to me. Eventually he came up the finish chute with HM (starting 6 behind me again) about 30 secs after I finished. However, my time was good enough for 3rd, and 3rd overall.

Orienteering race 44:29 [4] *** 4.9 km (9:05 / km)
spiked:6/9c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Easter day 2 - not the best course I've ever seen, barely more difficult than a M12 course, but I still lost a couple of minutes. Started 6 minutes before HM and he ran up the finish chute just after I downloaded. Only 5th today, but moved up to 3rd overall.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Orienteering race 47:28 [4] **** 4.6 km (10:19 / km)
spiked:9/14c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Easter 3 Days, day 1. Not a good start to the event, although I came 4th. Lost time at 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10. 6 minutes behind HM, and he had some troubles himself, 2 mins behind Swiss visitor in 2nd.

Running 46:15 [3] 8.4 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Queen's Domain in Hobart. Started at the aquatic centre, mainly followed small footpaths, mostly contouring, but some steep sections. Pretty hard to get a sweat up as much colder than I'm used to.

Road cycling 1:32:00 [3] 38.0 km (2:25 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Ride over to Dad's with Binnsey using the tow rope again. Breeze was ESE so bit of a headwind going, but crosswind coming back.

Saturday Apr 4, 2009 #

Road cycling 1:40:00 [3] 40.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Morning ride with Binnsey (she was free because CRT had a cyclo sportif event). Through N Perth & Leederville, around Herdsman and up past Hale School, to the coast then through City Beach, Claremont, Dalkeith, Nedlands, along the River, then up Beaufort St and home. Very strong Easterly headwind along the River. Saw Dangerman looking lost on Rochdale Rd, suspect he'd got dropped by the ERC group and had taken a shortcut to meet them on WC Highway. Later the group came past us in Nedlands, didn't see Dangerman but he was probably with them.

Orienteering race 24:02 [4] *** 4.09 km (5:53 / km)
spiked:12/18c shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Nav Dash race at Minim Cove. Time and distance does not include no. 17 which I ran straight past. After finishing, I jogged back and punched 17, 18 and the finish again to register a 5 minutes slower time, and 10-12 places down. Aside from 17, I lost 2.5 minutes at 4, half a minute each at 10 & 14, and several seconds at 3 and 6. All these controls were on thickets, and the flat markers were hard to spot, probably should have started at a busier time so more people were around. Still ahead of Binnsey in the overall series points though.

Running 47:33 [3] 9.0 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Bridges and South part of Heirisson Island, left the North out as achilles and itb a little niggly. SW breeze, but not too strong today. Saw some of the kangaroos, posing warily for a couple of Japanese tourists.
