Road cycling 2:07:00 [3] 52.0 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Same ride as last Sunday, but came back from Claremont the longer way via Nedlands & Mounts Bay Rd.

Saturday Nov 29, 2014 #

Orienteering race 14:58 [4] 2.5 km (5:59 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Short course at Kewdale Metro Series.

Friday Nov 28, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:15:00 [3] 55.0 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river including Mt Henry Bridge, then up the coast.

Thursday Nov 27, 2014 #

Running 29:37 [3] 5.2 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Hyde Park laps, similar pace to Tuesday, but no KT tape. Wore Trimtex compression socks to get a comparison. I think the tape is better.

Wednesday Nov 26, 2014 #

Road cycling 1:45:00 [3] 40.0 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, added a loop around the Causeway.

Tuesday Nov 25, 2014 #

Running 29:02 [3] 5.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Short Kings Park run, slow, testing the calf. Still had the KT tape on, seems ok, but I won't try longer or faster runs for a few more days.

Monday Nov 24, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:05:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river and up the coast ride. SE wind down the freeway, morphed into NE by the time I hit Port Beach, so basically a headwind for 2/3 of the ride.

Got on someone's wheel when they passed me on the Freeway path. I'm not too proud to hitch a ride (especially at my age), but I almost always try to take a turn myself. This guy was a demon though, his middle name must be tRicky and there's no way I could do much except hang on, and then only for about 2kms.

Sunday Nov 23, 2014 #

Road cycling 1:54:00 [3] 45.0 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Strong SW wind + the Santos Great Bike Ride limited my route options for this morning's ride, so headed West, into the wind but knowing it would be with me on the way home. Past Herdsman and up the hill North of Hale School, then Hale Rd to coast. Back up the Boulevard and across to do a lap of Reabold, climbing the old road to the top on the 2nd time. Down to City Beach, Challenger Parade, to Claremont and back along the railway path.

Orienteering race 14:40 [4] 2.5 km (5:52 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Metro Series, short course at Applecross.

Yesterday I bought some KT Kinesiology Tape from Rebel Sport (trying to find this or Rock Tape at local pharmacies is impossible!). So put one piece on the calf - bit less than what their Youtube instruction videos show, but thought it would be enough. Jogged around the oval to warm up, and felt a few twinges, so decided against doing the Long. Probably could have though, as once I started the calf gave me no trouble, even when I upped the pace after seeing Jo Anna coming the opposite way about half way round. Turns out she was on Medium, but just as well I went faster because a French girl came in only a few seconds after me.

Friday Nov 21, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:15:00 [3] 55.0 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

River/coast ride, with extra 5km around Mt Henry added to make up 200km for the week.

Wednesday Nov 19, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:40:00 [3] 62.0 km (2:35 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

To Dad's in Bull Creek (48 mins into SW headwind) then back to Canning Bridge, then complete the river/coast ride. Tough getting to Freo, but fine after that.

Monday Nov 17, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:10:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, bit of an unpleasant change from the past couple of times with a NW headwind up the coast from Port to Swanbourne.

Sunday Nov 16, 2014 #

Road cycling 1:30:00 [3] 33.0 km (2:44 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, nursing PP along.

Saturday Nov 15, 2014 #

Note

Walked Short course at Metro Series in 19:05. Distance must have barely been 2km. Got thrashed by several juniors and tRicky on the Medium.

Friday Nov 14, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:15:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river.

Wednesday Nov 12, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:10:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river. Going through town several riders passed me waiting at the Murray St lights, when they changed I went up the hill and found them all waiting to cross at the Hay St freeway exit, so I joined the back of the queue. There were two mtbs and 2 roadies, one in a completely zebra outfit (knicks and shirt) and the other in footy shorts, bonds jocks and a bum crack. Bum crack got away while zebra and i were stuck behind the two mtbs until after the underpass, where I rounded zebra and took off after bum crack. Finally caught him on the Narrows ramp and passed him just in time to avoid hitting a man mountain in a nomads shirt running the other way.

After a couple of km down the freeway path into the wind a tall, toned triathlete sailed past and after a moment's hesitation when I didn't think I'd be able to, I put my head down and pulled up to his wheel with a mighty effort. Guess he didn't know I was there, being down on his aeros and concentrating on not falling off (see Bike Snob), but after about 3km, and within 1km of Canning Bridge he glanced round, then immediately sat up. I thought 'Well, I probably won't be fast enough for you, given I'm twice your age and have a dodgy calf muscle and hairy legs, but I'll give it a go anyhow', so I took the lead. When we got to the bridge he went under and I went over.

Stopped at The Daily to find Mike Howe there, so we had a chat about ACAT assessments.

Tuesday Nov 11, 2014 #

Road cycling 1:24:00 [3] 33.0 km (2:33 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, with no strong headwind in either direction - for a pleasant change.

Saturday Nov 8, 2014 #

Orienteering race 49:57 [3] 7.0 km (7:08 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT 2170

Metro race at High Wycombe. Got as far as 13 before the calf muscle (same one as a couple of weeks ago) started complaining, so walked the rest. Suppose I should have gone home the quick way and claimed some Medium points.

Friday Nov 7, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:05:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river by myself. Strong headwind between Canning Bridge & Freo, which meant tailwind and high speed up the coast. My early ride meant I foiled the dastardly plot to change the usual coffee stop, which was comparatively quiet at that hour.

Wednesday Nov 5, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:05:40 [3] 49.6 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river with PP. Hit the coastal see breeze at HMAS Leeuwin, then it helped us up to Swanbourne, but petered out at Swanbourne station.

Tuesday Nov 4, 2014 #

Road cycling 1:29:00 [3] 33.0 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean, still a lot of lactic in the legs.

Saturday Nov 1, 2014 #

Running race 1:19:35 [4] 10.0 km (7:58 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

Stadium Stair Race. Hard yakka! Case of misleading advertising '1km, 5800 stairs', the course map showed effectively 3 times around the stadium with lots of up and down. My guess was it would be around 3-4km. Wrong! I got to about where I thought I would be peeling off to the finish at 42 minutes, but no sign of a turn. Kept going, by 50 minutes I was mostly walking the ups, by 60 mins got to the 3 tier stand for the 2nd time, and was walking the flats and downs too.

Distance is total guesswork, but felt as though I went a lot further - 14-15km. They need to get their act together to (a) measure and advertise the real distance (and maybe pare the long course back to one lap), (b) give more information about the course to the marshalls. Was pretty peeved to see lots of 'slowies', who I'd left way behind, already at the finish before me because they'd only done one lap and noone stopped them taking the finish turn after their first lap.

Certainly earned the sponsorships - thanks everyone!

Will have pretty sore calves and quads, and 4-5 black toenails tomorrow, but good prep for the start of Metro Series next Saturday - Yay!
