Orienteering race 16:51 [4] 1.7 km (9:55 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

NavDash Short course at Canning Vale College, lost track of where I was a couple of times in the similar-looking school buildings. Surprised to be leading by a minute when I finished, but not surprised that Anthea came along later and made my time look slow.

GPS 2.77km.

Orienteering race 21:49 [4] 2.6 km (8:23 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Long course at Canning Vale College, running more steadily and no significant mistakes, apart from a poor route choice 15-16. GPS 3.49km.

Note

TURP tomorrow. Hopefully no more catheters after discharge (no pun intended). Update: Op has been postponed until 19th June.

In retrospect, made the right decision to postpone the op and take the NZ trip using intermittent catheters, even though I wasn't able to orienteer anywhere near my best.

The South Island part of the trip was fantastic, especially the walking. On getting to Auckland I learnt that I was being upgraded from reserve to the AUS M70 team, but wasn't able to perform to my expectations. WMOC was similar. My fitness was up, although not at 100% because of the interruption to training in February/March, but the waterworks situation affected my concentration during events to a significant degree, and probably a lot more than I recognised at the time.

Orienteering race 15:02 [3] 1.9 km (7:55 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Medium course at Mt Lawley ECU, didn't start the Garmin until half-way from 4-5, which was around 800m into the course, so let's say the running distance was around 2.5km.

Quite a straightforward course, but 2 mistakes at the last two controls where I was probably tiring. Didn't read the description at 13, and expected to see the control on getting to the steps. Stopped for 10 secs, then read the description and went up the steps to find the control some 10m back from the top and not visible from below. Went racing off to 14 and despite having previously worked out where it would be went sailing straight past all the way to the flag I could see, which was the finish. Had to go back to 14, easily costing me the 30secs which would have pushed me up two places.

Orienteering race 21:01 [4] 2.6 km (8:05 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Long course at ECU, running distance 3.3km. Also a fairly easy course, with some common controls and similar legs to the Medium. Started really hard after having to wait a bit for the organisers to scrounge some used maps, and was just a few seconds behind Rachel at 6, but on the way to 7 I went completely breathless and had to stop. Walked the rest of that leg and most of the way to 8 before I could run again, but more slowly. Only one issue, again not reading the description at 12, where I went to the top of the steps first and couldn't see the control. It was at the bottom, but around the corner behind a wall.

Around the river, waited at the usual Friday meeting point until after 8am, but no-one turned up so continued alone.

Have missed the zucchini muffins so happy to scoff one at last.
