Orienteering race 19:39 [5] **** 2.0 km (9:50 / km)
spiked:14/21c shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

State Sprint Champs, suffering from heavy cold and probably shouldn't have run. Blew the first control by 2 mins, the one before the road crossing by 1 min, and several other time losses due to inability to concentrate. Surprised that I still managed 3rd.

Head cold developed overnight, must have caught it at a school, or the Banff film night.

Running 51:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Bridges and Sth Heirisson + detour. First real rain for months today, weather bureau says we got 5mm, but from the looks of the flooded paths on both sides of the river I would have guessed more like 50mm. The lakes on the Island were overflowing their banks - this time last week they were almost dry. Had to detour to the Canning Hwy overpass as the tunnel under the Causeway was flooded - so what was the point of all the work they did to supposedly fix it.

Thought I would probably get a soaking, and did but not in the way I expected - no sudden downpours like earlier in the day, just a constant drizzle for the whole run. Not surprisingly, I didn't see any roos, but a rabbit bolted across the path in front of me.

Running 39:55 [4] 8.0 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Kings Park circuit, not a big crowd tonight. Started out with Gary O, going fairly briskly, 1/2 way in 20:25 then Gary just took off. Knew it would be hard to get the 40, but just managed it.

Orienteering race 43:35 [4] **** 5.4 km (8:04 / km) +215m 6:44 / km
spiked:13/13c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Badge event at Spice Brook - nice gully/spur area which we haven't used for many years. A couple of minor hesitations, 5.92km on the Garmin so was very straight on all except the two long legs where I took a nice curving route to cross a creek where it was least green. LostRichard pipped me by 3 seconds, not unexpected but I did hope he would make a mistake. My best run race since last year's State Champs in September.
