Orienteering race 20:14 [4] 2.2 km (9:12 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

NavDash race at ECU Joondalup, except for one stuff-up at 4 only small micro-route or hesitation errors. Got ahead of myself at 4 and didn't recognise the short way through a passage.

Good to see tRicky get thrashed by 2 junior boys on the finish split!

Road cycling 2:16:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Friday around the river, breakfast at The Other Side with a bunfight (muffinfight?) over the last two zucchini muffins.

Road cycling 2:12:00 [3] 48.0 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, very strong WNW. Particularly hard struggle through Applecross and Attadale, cross wind down the freeway and up the coast, but I was able to get up the first hill on Grant St in a high gear. Breakfast at The Daily.

Orienteering race 33:47 [3] 2.0 km (16:54 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H4 at Stonebrook. Knee was pretty sore all night, so decided to do the shorter option today, initially I wasn't going to run at all, but it didn't feel too bad at 10.45 so quickly registered and changed. Hit all the control sites today, pity the last two flags were in the wrong place. 6 was a pit on a watercourse - I was expecting it to be just a hole in the watercourse so followed the w/c up, more than 50m past where it was shown, then back down, then around for a little exploring, then finally spotted a flag 30m away in a hole on a side watercourse. 3 minutes blown. The next was all uphill to a root mound on the map, but the description was 'tree'. Alarm bells rang, but anyway made it up to the circle, root mound there but no flag. Aha, it must be on one of the two distinctive trees on the map, one about 50m north, the other 100m ENE. Looked up, couldn't see any stand-out trees but headed off NE splitting the two. A flag appeared but didn't seem to be near a lone tree, didn't appear to be next to any sort of feature really but I thought I should check it out - wrong no. There were a few little stones around so i figured it to be rocky ground, the only example of which on the map was 200m NE of the root mound. At this stage I was most of the way up the steep hill to the finish, so thought about going home, but in the end decided to go back to the root mound just to make sure. Looked around, saw the pit and second root mound on the map, then finally a flag, 40m away under a blackboy! Whoopee - 5 mins lost. Slogged up to the finish and downloaded to find that tRicky had done the course in 17 mins, but then he'd already been to those two controls on the H1.

A bit dispiriting, but at least I went to the right places without any time loss - except for the very slow running.

Orienteering race 55:48 [3] 4.0 km (13:57 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H3 at Lovers Ridge, bad start when a lens dropped out about half-way to 1, took me 4-5 mins to find it, and another 2-3 mins afterwards finding 1 due to the distraction. Then 2 mins at 6 and 4 mins at 8. Very frustrating that I'm having difficulty relating ground to map. Finished about 12 mins down, I'm guessing the winner didn't have a great run as I'm probably 5 minutes down on my normal running speed over this distance.
