Road cycling 1:26:27 [3] 32.78 km (2:38 / km)
ahr:114 max:149 shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, mostly dry, but windy. First shower started just as I left home, and lasted about 5 mins. Then dry and even sunny as I passed the remnants of two parkruns (Claisebrook and then Maylands). Rain came back between Bayswater and Maylands on the railway path, but I could see it was clear over Mt Lawley and East Perth; again, lasted about 5 mins.

Orienteering race 45:03 [3] 3.2 km (14:05 / km)
ahr:131 max:164 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H4 Day 2 of Frazzle, GPS 4.03km, but it switched off somewhere, probably for around 5 mins until I noticed. Completely butchered no. 1, reading a broad spur as a gully and ignoring several safe routes - guess my mind wasn't switched on - 5 minutes lost. Won the next leg by 2 mins, going N through the paddocks, and reading the big boulders leading into the control. Went straight to 3, again correctly reading the rocks into the control and leading PD (the younger) in. Ran past 4 because it was more of a boulder than a cliff (in fact it may be mapped as a rectangular boulder - if a cliff then it's illegally short), losing the split to PD who would have been right behind but must have seen it. Won the next split, contouring along the paddock below the rocks until angling up from the w/c. Overshot 6 and then had to fight through heavy green - should have gone low instead of along the bare rock, at least 2 mins lost. 7 was ok, and executed the first part of 8 well, but then attacked from an unmapped track junction that looked just like the one on the map and headed into jungle. Eventually figured out where it was, another 2-3 mins lost.

Making too many mistakes lately, have to go back to basics, especially full concentration.

Orienteering race 35:03 [3] 2.1 km (16:41 / km)
ahr:128 max:164 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H4 course at Frazzle Rock Day 1, GPS 3.02km.

Careful to 1, and I won the split - just. Should have headed N for a bit out of 1, and into the watercourse leading to the control, but went E instead and found a different w/c to confuce myself with - lost a good minute, probably more. OK for 3, 4, 5 and 6, won the splits or was just 1 sec down. At 7 I could see the boulder it was on but thought that's way too far right, so hesitated a good 20 secs before going there. Blew 4 mins at 8 by not reading the description - which was wrong anyway; convinced myself it was at the head of a side w/c, and went away thinking i must be on the wrong w/c, when all the time it was a few metres away under a bush. Easily won the split to 9, even though I was way too low in the early part of the leg. The last 3 legs were all disasters for various reasons, but mainly the unmapped green, probably due to windfalls since the original mapping; probably did 5 mins over these three legs.
