orienteering race 25:00 [3] **** 2.0 km (12:30 / km)
7c (injured) shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

Saas-Peepre Coaches / Juniors Relay, paired with Molly Kemp. Molly did great. I felt like I was in a daze the whole time and and never really got into the map and terrain. Probably the after-effects of the hornet stings and medication. Still had a baseball-size swelling on left forearm and inner right thigh.

Wisely decided not to attempt the Prairie Goat in the heat that afternoon. Got some good photos of the mass start, then ended up assisting an orienteer who got multiple stings on the first leg, then took some photos of the bedraggled, heat-exhausted finishers as they staggered in.

time and distance estimated.

orienteering 1:00:00 [3] *** 4.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

Saas-Peepre Camp training on Yellow Quill map. Line-O to start, some warm-up out & back legs, and a warm-up course before lunch.

Right after lunch, while setting controls for a relocation course, I tripped over a low wire fence. While tying some warning streamers on it, I got nailed by two hornets. One on the left elbow and one high on the right inner thigh. Although very painful, I am probably lucky that the second one was not a couple inches higher! Lost my compass in my haste to flee (David Ross and I returned to the scene early on Friday morning and found it, although some little varmint had chewed up the thumb strap.)

Put out controls for a control-picking course while the juniors did a warm-up & line O', then did some shadowing & pick-up.
