Mitchell. Checking control locations and mapping the rest of the future mountain bike trails. Light cover of melting snow in most places, but not too bad for walking.

walking 2:45:00 [1] 8.0 mi (20:37 / mi)

night, owling for OBBA. Got a couple great horned and a barred. 80% lightly snow-covered road and path, 10% bare road, 10% off-trail, which was a thick icy crust over several inches of snow and very hard walking.

home to auto repair shop (replacing a cracked windshield). Not as cold as I expected, once I got moving. The stone chips from last summer's trips out west finally caught up with the old windshield, even though I had a so-called glass repair treatment done at the time. Last week, the cracks just started spreading... and spreading... and spreading like some insidious growth from an old sci-fi / horror movie.

Mitchell. adding a little new area and updating. Less ice and much better footing than Hueston Woods.

walking 20:00 [1]

snow removal. less than an inch of light stuff, on top of ice sheet. Cold but sunny, so maybe some of the ice will start to melt.

shoes: Icebugs

Hueston Woods. Icy footing.

Note
weight:162lbs (rest day)

Ice storm made walking upright almost impossible and high winds with icy branches made the forests dangerous, so it was a good day to catch up on drafting and paperwork.

Mitchell Memorial Forest. Planning courses for Feb 19 and updating map. A few very minor vegetation changes, but most of the vegetation seems pretty accurate. But there are several miles of new mountain bike trails. I think I got all of the completed segments, plus a good amount of future trail that has been flagged & had most of the bushes and trees cleared, but no surface work.
