Running 15:00 [2]

Warmup and cooldown for the second sprint, including going to check out a questionable control location with Adam Woods and Siri.

Orienteering race 16:34 [3]

Sprint 1, at Central Oregon Community College.

I took this at a cruising pace, never pushing the speed. It was fun - most of the course went in the woods, and you had to be quite precise with compass and reading the trails and rock features in order to avoid drifting. Not sure of my exact time, as I haven't seen results anywhere.

Orienteering race 18:10 [4]

The day's second sprint, at Shevlin Park. This was very much a runner's course, with very little technical orienteering. Ironically, I made perhaps my biggest mistake of the Daze here, by going to the wrong boulder on #10. I originally was convinced that the control was mishung, but when I went back out to look more closely, I concluded that it was on the right boulder, but the boulder I thought I was using as my attack point was nowhere to be found in the terrain. Legs pretty fired by the end.

I loved the Deschutes Daze and was so happy we came here! The terrain is lovely and diverse, the atmosphere was very laid-back, the company was excellent, and the weather delightful. Sign me up for next time.
