US Nationals F21 Predictions

The F21 field here is one of the more exciting we've had in the US in a while, especially if we include the non-US-eligible participants: the McCavana sisters from Ireland, Briana Steven from New Zealand; Carol Walker from Canada; and Tatyana Rvacheva.

Still, Ali Crocker has to be seen as the overall favorite in all three races, assuming her most recent hamstring injury proves to be minor. Tori Borish and Julia Doubson should provide the closest competition. Former US WOC runner Viktoria Brautigam can serve as a dark horse. Also, keep an eye on US Biathlon Olympian Susan Dunklee in the sprint.

Sprint
1. Ali Crocker (if she runs)
2. Aoife McCavana
3. Tori Borish
4. Tatyana Rvacheva
5, Julia Doubson
6. Briana Steven

Middle
1. Ali Crocker
2. Tatyana Rvacheva
3. Tori Borish
4. Julia Doubson
5. Briana Steven
6. Carol Walker

Long
1. Ali Crocker
2. Tori Borish
3. Briana Steven
4. Tatyana Rvacheva
5. Julia Doubson
6. Aoife McCavana

* Disclaimer: I don't actually know what I am talking about, so this is almost certainly all wrong. But I thought it might be fun to throw some predictions out there.

Note

US Nationals are coming up this weekend!

Both M21 and F21 have pretty strong fields. Here are some predictions, for fun.

M21
Sprint
1. Joe Barrett - probably best all-around orienteer in the US right now. has to be considered a favorite in every domestic race he starts.
2. Will Enger - solid speed and navigation, can pull out big results in big races despite relatively low training volume.
3. AJ Riley - would be right up there with Joe, but only just coming back from injuries that kept him out of WOC and World Games racing

Dark horses: Jan Lauenstein (not US eligible); Erin Schirm (can be dangerous on a campus sprint if in shape); Eric Bone (never count him out. ever.)

Middle
1. AJ Riley
2. Eric Bone
3. Will Enger

(Unique Vasquez Rocks terrain should give an edge to West Coast residents, hence the risky omission of Joe from the top three)
Dark horses: Joe Barrett; Boris Granovskiy; Mark Prior; Alexander Kiperman.)

Long
1. Joe Barrett
2. Eric Bone
3. AJ Riley
1 PM

Rowing 33:23 intensity: (23:23 @1) + (10:00 @4)
ahr:72 max:122

Rowing session with some intervals, 5x90 seconds+5x30 seconds.
6 PM

Skiing 43:36 [2] 8.35 km (5:13 / km) +54m 5:03 / km
ahr:110 max:162

Skiing!! We got like 8 inches of fresh snow today, and the U of M golf course was groomed for the first time this season. Jan and I went out with headlamps after work. Soft snow made for tough going, but still really nice to be out there.
