MTB Cycling 2:23:57 [3] 31.59 km (4:33 / km)

Forrest:- with Kim from West Barwin Resevoir near Forrest. It was the location of TA7 in the Keen AR. We placed some controls for the short orienteering leg, then 3 on the Forest single tracks. Much nicer riding and relatively dry. Mariners run track is always good fun. I was pretty hungry by the time we finished.

I spent the rest of the evening at the TA checking teams in and out. Also finally picked up some Inline skates from JJ and did a bit of practice around the carpark and up the road.

Running 1:10:00 [3] 10.0 km (7:00 / km)

Aye River:- Morning run from Aye River on the Great Ocean Road 20km west of Lorne. I ran the MTB leg of yesterdays prologue at the Keen Adventure Race. It was up a big hill on horrendously wet and slippery clay track and was quicker to run than ride. Also spent 30mins running to put out a CP 9 (which was trickier than I expected!).
Spent the rest of the day at TA watching teams come in with the worst clay covered bikes ever. I was NOT envious one bit.

Running 28:15 [3] 4.9 km (5:46 / km)

Bruce:- quick early morning from Ben and Mace's.
Attended two sessions at ACTAS- one on eating disorders, and another on balancing coaching life with family life- both were very interesting.
Very busy day. Flew back to melbourne then drove to Aye River to volunteer for a few days at the Keen Adventure Race. I couldn't race this year because my brother David's wedding is on Saturday.

MTB Cycling race 2:33:40 [5] 38.13 km (4:02 / km)

Woodend:- Had an ok start but didn't take it as hard as yesterday. It was colder, wetter and slippery and after a few small offs I took it easy. Looking at the splits I was doing ok, and certainly fighting for 2nd but got a puncture near 7. Funny cos I never get punctures and I didn't have a pump or tube. Waited for Dari to come and he nicely gave me a 29inch tube that wouldn't fit, and an pump that didn't work. Thanks mate :P Then Alex came by and gave me a tube but I still couldn't pump it up until another guy came along with a gas canister. Lost 25mins and was pretty cold by the time I started. Never really regained much intensity and strolled across the line a long way behind AJ.

Kayaking 50:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)

Hazelwood Pondage:- after a shocking day of rain I went paddling with Kath in the Red 7 and it was quite nice. We experimented with swapping positions in the boat (I'm normally in the front) but still not sure what combo is best.

Thursday Apr 23, 2009 #

MTB Cycling 34:47 [3] 10.03 km (3:28 / km)

Delburn Forest:- Quick ride to check the Rush was still working. Short but fun.

Wednesday Apr 22, 2009 #

Running 44:59 [3]

Wilson's Promontory:- beautiful morning run with Kathryn. Struggled to get going, particulary on the hills. Nice swim to wake me up.

Tuesday Apr 21, 2009 #

Running 1:19:12 [3] 12.36 km (6:25 / km)

Wilson's Promontory:- Awesome trail from Tidal River to Oberon beach around the coastal walking track. Such a great area. Legs were a bit tired from the ride, but ok after I got going.

Road Cycling 1:43:50 [3] 42.64 km (2:26 / km)

Wilson's Promontory:- After coming down to the Prom I couldn't resist staying a bit longer. And would you believe they have better internet coverage at Tidal River than at my place. And with a nice cafe to sit in and tap away on the laptop things couldn't be better!

Got out for a ride on the road bike. Out for about an hour, then back via a few of the beaches and a tough climb up to Mt Oberon saddle carpark. Legs felt ok and it was nice to be riding for a change.

Monday Apr 20, 2009 #

Running 39:28 [3] 6.51 km (6:04 / km)

Wilson's Promontory:- After spending the night on the Spirit of Tasmania, we drove home in the morning and in the arvo headed down to the Prom to meet Kathryn's dad who was holding a school camp there. I've only been there once for a day last year and had forgotten how beautiful it is.

We had a quick jog before it got dark. My calves were tight but othewise felt better than I should have. If we had another day of racing I would have beaten Grant by even more.

University of Tasmania:- Had a bit of a shocker. Felt like I was running ok, but made a few stupid mistakes. Was caught by Simon and Kerrin near the end. One of my worst placing in NOL history, but thats good for the competition.

Running 1:02:28 [3] 12.04 km (5:11 / km)

Delburn:- evening run with Kathryn.
Winter had arrived with driving showers and 10degrees.

Sunday Apr 5, 2009 #

Orienteering race 12:21 [5] 2.75 km (4:29 / km)

Spring Gully:- Southern Cross Sprint with reverse order start from this morning meaning I was chasing Leon and being chased by Evan. Had an ok run to hold off Evan but couldn't catch Leon either. Not quite as strong at the finish as I would have liked. Otherwise it was another fun day of racing.

Orienteering race 36:12 [5] 7.05 km (5:08 / km)

Spring Gully:- VIC State Series and Southern Cross Challenge
Planned to run the first few legs as hard as I could before the technical gold mining sections. Ran quite well up to #10 where I got confused by parallel erosion ditches and lost 20 secs. Started to feel like I was struggling to keep it together mentally, and I was correct. Started naving from 15-16, rather than 14-16 and took a while to work it out as they were similar legs. Lost about 30secs and was unnerved for a few controls.
I ran ok for the rest and really pushed the last few easy controls. Pretty happy with the run, especially physically. 3mins behind De Haas, and 20secs behind Bendigo Bandit Barr.

Saturday Apr 4, 2009 #

Running 1:10:02 [3] 12.81 km (5:28 / km)

Delburn:- morning run with Kathryn. I wanted to do the group ride from the Traralgon as i've only been home about 1 saturday morning in 12months but my knee is giving me grief so decided a run would be better. It was sore after 15mins, but didn't get any worse than that. Felt a bit flat at times. 6 x 30sec surges along TMCRd at the end.

Inline Skating 45:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:18 / km)

Patterson Lakes:- Afternoon inline skate with Kim using Dave's skates, while Dave and Kathryn surfed a few waves in the Red7. It was my first skate in 3years and I was pretty happy with how I went with no stacks.

Friday Apr 3, 2009 #

Kayaking intervals 1:06:43 [4] 10.0 km (6:40 / km)

Hazelwood Pondage:- arvo paddle that should have been a morning paddle. Was warm and calm in the morning, the windy, rainy and cold in the afternoon.
10mins w.u
3x10x30secs on/off with 1TB resistance
1 x 10x30secs on/off no resistance.
Felt like I was paddling ok, and knee not as sore as yesterday.

Thursday Apr 2, 2009 #

Running race 19:21 [5] 5.07 km (3:49 / km)

Traralgon:- Another mass start, looks like that will be the norm from now on. Was pretty windy and warm, but quite a flat course. Pretty good turn out too, but Kath and I were left on our own with a big group of 7 in front. I hung onto Kath for the first km which made me think I might be able to stick with her. We traded leads until I dropped off about 2.5km in. I got passed by a few guys and couldn't maintain much of a pace at the end. Surprised how much I slowed down when I looked at my GPS splits.
Bloody buggered after the race. Did about 10min cool down but my knee was hurting a lot.

Running warm up/down 16:05 [2] 2.87 km (5:36 / km)

Traralgon:- warm up for Harriers. Right knee was sore and weak from a hard massage at lunch time.

Kayaking 30:02 [3] 5.32 km (5:39 / km)

Hazelwood Pondage:- I ran out of time to do a decent paddle but went anyway. Solid hit out on a nice day.

Wednesday Apr 1, 2009 #

Running 1:20:01 [3] 13.55 km (5:54 / km)
