Kayaking (Clontarf) 1:45:00 [2]
slept:7.0

with Damon, Fleur, and 2 swedes I met in NZ, Mattias and Gustav. I paddled in the Supersonic with Mattias. We planned to head towards the city and stop at botanical gardens. It was bloody windy and when we got to Middle Head there was heaps of chop and rebound off the cliffs and we struggled for a bit before going swimming. This is much more of a problem in the supersonic, than in a surf ski. I got back in ok, but don't think Mattias would have. We had to wait for the others to come along side to hold onto, pump out the water and climb back in. I'm glad we weren't out there on our own otherwise it could have been a very long swim.
Then decided to head back into middle harbour, under spit bridge and up near tunks park and back.

MTB Cycling (Manly Dam) 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Jamis Dakota XC

After the paddle i rode from Manly, met Dari and did a cruisy lap of the Dam. Tough ride to make a return to the Jamis after 30hrs on the Rush. Really thought the front suspension was crap, but then realised my front wheel was loose, and the cause of all the clunking when going off drop offs. Lucky.

Road Cycling (Sydney Uni Lab) 1:15:00 [4]
slept:7.0 weight:67kg shoes: Specialized MTB

Study meant to be 90mins at 65% Vo2 Max- or for me 228Watts. Had a cather in arm so they could collect blood every 15mins. The first hour wasn't so bad, but then i really started to struggle. Cadence kept stopping so the bike ups the resistance to maintain constant power output. Could only just make it to the 75min mark. Very disappointing. Not sure what was really wrong with me. Any punter should be able to finish that session.
The rest of the day was spent getting MRI's of the liver- used to determine the levels of glucose, fat etc pre and post exercise.

Tuesday Mar 27, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Still on the diet.

Monday Mar 26, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

On the diet study again. Felt crap most of the day. Not sure if it was because of the diet/lack of coffee, or just coincidence.

Heading off to Victoria tonight for the Keen Adventure Race. Two person teams (racing with Mounty), 4 stages over 5 days and $60000 prizemoney. Should be some spectacular scenery along the Great Ocean Road Coast. Hopefully won't have to re-enact one of my favourite movie scenes- The final wave ride in Point Break at Bells Beach.

Road Cycling tempo (windtrainer) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Specialized MTB

This session was part of the study i'm taking part in for School of Exercise and Sports Science (where Fatrat studies, and i did my Masters). Had to do 60mins at 65% VO2max, which was calculated at 228W. Used my bike but with a Powertap rear hub which measures power. Wasn't too hard, but noticably harder by the end.
Now i have a controlled balanced diet for 60hrs- and rest

Kayaking (North Avoca to Bobbin Hea) 4:15:00 [3] 40.0 km (6:23 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Mark2 surfski

with Mounty. It was a long day. Didn't start til 12 and it was 5pm before we were back in the car. Successfully exited thru the surf break at North Avoca which was exciting. The first 80mins was pretty choppy with difficult rebound off the cliffs. After that it became more and more flat water as we went past Umina, Lion Island, West Head. Had a brief stop after 3hrs to check we were going the right way. Then past Cottage point and the biggest bloody boat you could imagine, well not as big as QM2, but nearly- check it out here http://www.luxuryretreats.com/yacht.asp?yachtID=31...
you can rent it for a cool $490 000 a week

I was pretty tired after 2hrs, particularly my right arm/shoulder. Hands were also sore. Glad to get to the end.
