7 AM

Swimming 40:00 [3] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

post nightshift swim with Matt. Had trouble keeping up with him in his new wetsuit. Arms felt tired and out of practice but got better as I went on.
5 PM

MTB Cycling 54:56 [3] 20.17 km (2:43 / km) +224m 2:35 / km
shoes: Cannondale Rush

The new commute to work. Not as nice as DIS to Hazelwood because there is more boring roads with no shoulder but it could be a lot work. The first climb up Downies Lane is pretty tough.

Road Cycling 4:04:35 [3] 113.85 km (2:09 / km) +818m 2:04 / km
shoes: Cervelo P3

Melbourne Ironman training begins. Probably not the best ride to bring out the TT bike for the first time in 8 months, probably should have used the yellow racer that doesn't mind a bit of off road action as it took a bit of exploring to find the best roads. Bit disappointed to find there are only two possible sealed road options from Traralgon South, one i on the busy Tgon Creek road which has no shoulder and the other is over Mt Tassie to Yarram and would involve about 160km round trip. Still the loop was pretty nice after I got out to Loy Yang, then Gormandale, Willung, Rosedale for a pie and coffee, Glengarry, Traralgon and home.
Made a few adjustment to seat position which I think helped. Will try lifting the arm rests a bit next time. Shoulders and neck didn't really enjoy the ride but the legs were pretty happy.

Orienteering 4:48:46 [3] 50.09 km (5:46 / km) +2207m 4:43 / km
shoes: Saucony Peregrine (green)

Duncan's Run Hundred 50km race, memorial run for my mate Duncan Orr.
I really wanted to do the 100km race but my running training since the marathon has been pretty restricted and the last few shifts at work have been pretty hard on the legs with lots of stairs in heavy boots. I wasn't even sure if the 50km was a good idea but I was going to start anyway.
6am starts are never very enjoyable but at least we now live only 20mins drive from Balook (didn't stop me from being the last to register). The 50 and 100km races started together on the same course. I took it pretty easy from the start and it wasn't long before Magnus Michelsson ran off the front. It was nice to have a chat with a few of the other competitors and met a local legend from Warragul, Robbie Z, who has a won his age class at Hawaii ironman a few times. On the climb up to Taylors Rd a few of the guys slowed down and I was in 2nd. Felt quite good along Taylors Road but never really fired all day. The climb up to Balook was bloody hard but I didn't worry about it and walked the steeper parts and didn't see anyone behind. I was considering changing to the 100km course but came to my senses and decided to look after the body and hit 2014 running. Finished 30mins behind Magnus but that was understandable.

Orienteering 35:01 [3] 5.66 km (6:11 / km) +148m 5:28 / km

morning swim after nightshift. I forgot have much night shift sucks. It gonna take a while to get used to it...

Sunday Dec 8, 2013 #

8 AM

Swimming 35:51 [3] 2.0 km (17:56 / km)

Lorne Adventure Fest Leg 1
88th, 14th in category.
Got into some clear water from the start which was nice but this only lasted for the first 100m before I got smashed by a few people near the first buoy. It took a while to get going but I felt like I swam the 2nd half pretty well and passed a few in that time. Though time wasn't any better than last year when I did NO training. At least I beat Jarad :-)
9 AM

Kayaking 1:05:57 [3] 12.3 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Fenn Elite Spark

It didn't seem like a great paddle, not much strength into the wind. But the downwind section was better. But I was only 6min behind the best solo guys which is better than I normally do. The new boat must have made all the difference. Felt good to catch and pass Dodd too.
10 AM

Running race 1:14:17 [3] 13.0 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Saucony Peregrine (green)

Running 33:33 [3] 6.28 km (5:21 / km) +168m 4:43 / km

Monday Dec 2, 2013 #

9 AM

Swimming 40:00 [3] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

10 AM

Kayaking 1:20:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Fenn Elite Spark

Paddle to Australia rock and back. Water was so clear and I've only seen it this flat once. Wind did pick up while I was out there though.
11 AM
