Orienteering race (Xmas 5days- Day 4) 31:41 [5] 6.98 km (4:32 / km)
shoes: North Face Anurva Boa

Another pretty good run, no big mistakes but really lacking some speed that showed up on the longer legs. Great area, a shame it wasn't mapped when I studied here.
6th, 4mins behind Shep.

Kayaking long (Newcastle) 1:50:00 [3] 18.0 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Fenn Millennium

Midday paddle in the millenium starting at Carrington. Out through the harbour and into the wind. Didn't intend to go so far, but kept on being tempted to go further. Got about 4km off shore, but still not even close to the ship i was heading too. Pretty scaring being that far on my own. Turned around and enjoyed the downwind return. Passed two ships, one going out, and one in, which was pretty awesome. So big! Pretty hungry by the time I finished. Felt strong today.

Orienteering race (Xmas 5days- Day3) 40:21 [5] 7.41 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Stability

Again started off at controlled pace, and ramped it up as the race progressed. Didn't miss more then 15secs on any control. Really happy with compass today and pushed hard towards the end. Finally a better result.
2nd behind Grant.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Orienteering race (Xmas 5days- Day2) 46:47 [4] 7.0 km (6:41 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Stability

Took it pretty easy today to prevent leg troubles. Missed the 1st to the left by 1.5mins. After that it was an ok run but never pushed too hard.
6th, 6mins behind Julian

Kayaking (Bar Beach) 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Fenn Millennium

Some fun mucking around the waves at Bar beach followed by a paddle down to Glenrock and back

Kayaking (Bolton Point) 1:00:00 [3] 8.5 km (7:04 / km)
shoes: Fenn Millennium

with Prong in Millennium starting down the street, across to Toronto and along Coal Point and back. Swapped boats and mucked around a bit. Arms not as tired as expected.

Orienteering race (Xmas 5days- Day 1) 43:55 [3] 7.38 km (5:57 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Stability

Started off ok, but soon my Tib Ants on both legs got really tight and had no control over my feet. Couldn't push at all for the rest of the course, and made a few sloppy mistakes. Compass work could be improved.
8th, and 10mins behind Shep (the large margin did surprise me)

Kayaking (Newcastle to Redhead) 2:00:00 [3] 20.5 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Red7 double

afternoon paddle with Prong in Red7. Starting in the harbour at Carrington, out past the foreshore and Pasha Bulka coming back into port. Windier than i expected and really choppy around Nobby's. We made good time down to Merewether catching a few runs with the wind behind us. The coast then swings back south and the next 10km were pretty difficult with wind over left shoulder and swell from the south. Fell in 4 times but that was pretty good I thought. There were big waves coming into Redhead, but we timed our run nicely and got in safely.

Kayaking (Catherine Hill Bay) 1:02:00 [3] 9.0 km (6:53 / km)
shoes: Fenn Millennium

early morning drive to Newcastle. Prong piked on the planned paddle when he saw the Southerly blowing. So I went to Catho on the way there. Wasn't too windy on the beach, so thought I'd better make the most of it. Soon realised it was far more difficult than I realised and as soon as I got out of the bay it was really windy and quite big swell. Scared shitless being out there on my own I made it 2km into the wind before turning around and doing a downwind run to the north of the bay. Was very surprised I hadn't fallen out, but relieved as I was worried I wouldn't get back on again in the chop. Finally started to relax and back into the wind. Finally fell in but fortunately back on first go. Caught a cracker wave into the beach- it feels like you are going so fast! Went back out for another 10mins to practice catching waves. Got another good one all the way to the beach.
When I finished I realised there were 3 guys watching from the surf club. Probably the best opportunity to practice riding waves since there was no one else on the beach and if i got knocked out there was a good chance of being noticed. Must was paddled pretty hard cos my guns were sore for the rest of the day.
