Running hills (Stromlo Running Festival) 17:28 [5] 3.5 km (4:59 / km) +200m 3:53 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Teva X1 Stability

The late night party and early morning start resulted in very few starters from the orienteers in the Stromlo Mountain race. The pace was quick from the start and i had no time to warm up and was immediately out the back. I was surprised when i got to the 2km mark and realised I better get a move on and caught a few people near the top. Good runs from the youngsters Lachlan Dow and Oliver Poland.

Running (Stromlo Running Festival) 30:53 [2] 5.13 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Stability

jogging back down the hill on a singetrack with Mark Gregson.

Orienteering (Sparrow Hill) 1:20:00 [2] 8.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Teva X1 Stability

Hanging out streamers for training, and running around the shortened course with the junior girls. Great fun running in the pines but bloody hard work without a compass. Didn't have much energy this arvo.

hanging streamers for sprint training

Orienteering race (Stromlo Running Festival) 34:28 [5] 6.1 km (5:39 / km) +50m 5:26 / km

I didn't get much time to warm up due to the novice briefing so didn't feel that great at the start line. I started head to head with Rob W, but when i ended up at his #2 i wondered if i'd started running the wrong loop- turns out the controls looked similar to me. Was a bit erratic early on but settled into it until I stupidly followed Grant out of #10 and got pulled way off line, and thru an illegal marsh- prob lost 1.5mins as I took ages to relocate. Heading out on the final loop I had Fatrat just in front, but it took me til the 10th control to catch him. I was just struggling physically and felt like we were running embarrisingly slow. Pushed all the way to the finish and 5th was probably as good as I deserved.
I thought the Orienteering part of the SRF was a great promotion for the sport. And hopefully the festival will grow of the next few years. Thanks to Shep for all the work he put into the event.

Orienteering (Bluetts West) 1:30:00 [2] 7.0 km (12:51 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: Teva X1 Stability

putting out and collecting controls for the night race.
It was a good turnout and I pretty sure most people enjoyed it. Great finish in the boys with Simon coming from behind to pip Julian on the last short loop.

MTB Cycling (South Gippsland RailTrail) 2:06:12 [4] 50.22 km (2:31 / km) +185m 2:28 / km
shoes: Cannondale Rush

Drove with mum and dad to Leongatha and rode the South Gippsland rail trail. Gave dad about 20mins start while i went shopping for a costum for the Castle party. I pushed pretty hard for 100mins before I finally caught dad. He was pumping along and we didn't really ease of until near the end. Dad should take up AR as he'd still be better than most.

Running (Delburn forest) 1:35:40 [3] 16.0 km (5:59 / km) +450m 5:15 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: new NORTH FACE Anurva

evening run with Kathryn. Out to the end of the forest and back through some of the nice pines and some burnt out sections. Did 5x100m reps next to the pond before finishing. Legs felt pretty good.

Road Cycling long (Walhalla) 4:53:00 [3] 140.0 km (2:06 / km) +1000m 2:01 / km
ahr:151 slept:7.5

morning ride from home to Tyers (75mins), met Murray, up to Walhalla for a coffee. Then back to Tyers, and on my own to Glengarry and into Traralgon. I felt pretty good for most of the ride but no quite as energetic up the hills as last week. The wind was pumping in the valley so it was nice heading out to Glengarry, but a struggle into Traralgon. I cracked about 10mins from the end and just made it into Cafe Aura for a big ice coffee. Couldn't quite make the 5hr mark but should have eaten earlier.

Evening run with Kathryn. It was a much faster than our normal training runs. I struggled a bit at first but I got into it after about 20mins and we pushed all the way home.
