Garmin Connect - Activity Details for Untitled
Wellington Plains- Alpine NP:- McFarlane Saddle to Lake Tali Karng return
Drove to McFarlane's Saddle (1510m) and parked the car in the snow with 2 other cars. Headed off across the Wellington Plains to Moloka Gap. The snow was much deeper than expected, but ok to walk on in some spots, but hard work when you sink through. A few km's in we passed 3 guys walking back out. They said they turned around because of the snow and had camped at Moloka Gap. We followed their footprints to a saddle, then down a the side of a valley for a km before we their footprints stopped. I was a bit suspect that we hadn't seen any signs of a track for a while and realised we might be going down the wrong creek. Doh! Probably should take a compass and a better map (ie with contours) next time :-) And never follow footprints.
Climbed back out and then over to the real Moloka Saddle. Found the track again and down towards Millers Hutt. We were still at 1480m and the snow didn't look like clearing anytime soon. Finally the track started dropping and we were out of the snow at 1300m. A very steep descent to Lake Tali Karng (870m) with a storm to dampen things a little.
The Lake was nice, but not really as picturesque as expected. Ate a sandwich and headed back up the hill. It was much easier following our own tracks this time and we were pushing hard to make it back before frostbite struck out toes. Even caught up a cross country skiier new the end. It was typically mountainous clouds when we finished but at least it was nice in the morning. A good day out in a pretty rugged area.

MTB Cycling 2:08:59 [3] 25.56 km (5:03 / km) +600m 4:31 / km

Thomastown- Alpine NP. :- Drove up to Licola, then up a big hill on Tamboritha Rd to Thomastown. (no town, just a location). Parked the car there and rode the mtb's up a nice Kelly's track to Kelly's Hut. Plenty of snow about and some swollen creeks to traverse. Kelly's Hut was quite nice and overlooked an old farming paddock. Then onto Howitt Rd and back to the car via Lost Plain (1480m) and a very cold descent.
Camped next to a beautiful creek at Thomastown. Bloody cold though with plenty of frost in the morning.

Running 29:47 [3] 5.1 km (5:50 / km)

Delburn:- Felt very lazy today after a late night at Inferno to see Kisschasy. The first time I'd been to Traralgons largest night spot and it was far from packed. Would be pretty good on a big night. It has a greater mirrorball to population ratio of any club in the world.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

warm up and cooldown

Running 24:06 [3] 5.96 km (4:03 / km) +90m 3:46 / km

Rifle Range Rd, Glengarry:- Back to Summer time handicap starts at Harriers. It was shattered to find Kathryn had a 40sec start on me!?!? Anyway the guys I started with quickly dropped me and a knew it was going to be a tough day. But held to pace on the 2nd lap to negative split which was good, boosted by the sight of Kath coming back to me (only cos she had a crook gut or something). Might have to do some decent speedwork if I'm ever to run quicker than 4min/km again.

Road Cycling 1:16:34 [3] 38.8 km (1:58 / km)

DIS to Tyers:- Afternoon ride to Tyers where I met Kathryn and went to Harriers. Opposite direction to yesterday, but still into the wind as it had changed. Pretty solid workout.

Traralgon-Yallourn North-Moe-Narracan-Driffield-Delburn:- Home from Traralgon after a massage with Murray.
Traralgon-Yallourn North-Moe-Narracan-Driffield-Delburn. Into the wind and up hill most of the way. Felt pretty flat but thats probably ok.

Running 41:28 [3] 5.89 km (7:02 / km) +100m 6:29 / km

Coopers Creek to Cowwarr:- Had to go back to the car and since I had so much energy left I tied the boat with a tow strap and ran 2km up hill to the rail trail dragging the boat. Very good AR training, should make towing Damon around Portugal easier. It was raining now and so cold I left my helmet on for the remainder of the 4km down the rail trail to the car.

Kayaking 39:33 [3] 4.74 km (8:21 / km)

Thompson Bridge to Coopers Creek:- This was a section of the Thompson I hadn't paddled yet and wanted to check out for a potential race stage. It had a 200m tunnel dug by miners nearly 100years ago to divert the water so they could mine the aluvial river bed. I had heard you might be able to paddle through it, but not when the water was so high. It was like a whirlpool sucking into the entrance with some log jams and I was worried about falling in even when I hopped out to have a look. Still impressive though.
The alternative route is to portage 1km of the riverbed which was actually much easier than expected. I was paddling a Dancer for the first time (short plastic downriver boat with no rudder) and it was very easy just to drag. Back it the water for another short paddle to Coopers Creek. There were some good rapids in there, particularly with higher water levels.
