Road Cycling 1:33:03 [3] 39.39 km (2:22 / km) +293m 2:17 / km

Morning. Bruce-Stromlo-ANU.

Morning ride with LazyDave prior to Day 2 of OA conference. Beaut morning and easy pace probably due to me struggling a little.
Conference was pretty positive this year I thought, with a bit more of a "lets do it" attitude rather than "lets talk about it for another 6months".

Caught up with Valerie Barker, new Junior/JWOC manager for an ice coffee at Tilleys. It think she will do a great job, and we have some similar views about annoying parents overstepping their welcome at JWOCs.

Note

very early flight from Melbourne to Canberra for the OA conference. Considered running LazyDave's orienteering course at ANU but really couldn't be bothered.

Afternoon. Delburn- Morwell.

afternoon ride to Morwell. Had the wind gods on my side today and timed the ride just as a big front with SW winds came. It was all too easy.

Road Cycling 42:26 [3] 20.58 km (2:04 / km) +73m 2:02 / km

Evening. Hazelwood Pondage to DIS.

warm up ride down to the pondage. Its not very far by straight line but a lot longer by sealed roads. Downhill but into the wind.

Road Cycling 58:50 [3] 35.53 km (1:39 / km) +37m 1:39 / km

Evening. Hazelwood Pondage.

First road cycling race ever- at Hazelwood Pondage with the Latrobe Valley Cycling Club. Raced B grade (prob C grade in a major city), and knew two riders from Harriers- Duncan and Shane. Probably worked a little harder than I wanted to get there on time but at least I was warmed up. Race was 3 laps of 12km.
It was windy like it always is at the pondage, so the first 2 quarters of the squarish course were tougher. I had no idea what to expect so was just going to sit and see what happend. Shane did all the work for the first few k's with no one else taking over. Not sure why he did that. Duncan made a move past the powerstation on first lap and kept looking back for someone to join him but no one did so he eventually came back. He went again same place 2nd lap this time I joined him and and brought 2 others (Warrigul CC and Milram) and we gapped the bunch. Worked solidly for half a lap before I slowly recovered. Going past the power station on last lap I had just done a turn and was at the back when Warrigal broke from 3rd. I was off the back and thought I was gone but just clawed my way back and Duncan caught Warrigal. But then Milram went and held on the last 2km to win. I was rooted and just cruised at the back down the hill and didn't try to chase Duncan when he went. But Warrigal was tiring so gave it a go and caught Duncs to take 2nd.
Pretty happy with the race and probably the hardest i've worked on a bike since trying to hold Streetys wheel for the last 50km of XPD Whitsundays. I don't really enjoy riding in a bunch (actually there were only 12) especially in the wind- takes too much concentration. But i'll try to make this a regular wednesday session.

Road Cycling 1:18:00 [3] 38.29 km (2:02 / km) +98m 2:01 / km

Morning. DIS to Traralgon.

Into the easterly wind and carrying a pack I didn't feel very spritely. Calves a bit sore from the weekend

Strength work 1:00:00 [3]

Evening. Brady's.

Murray recommmended me not to ride home after my massage so I did his Pilates/Stretch class instead while waiting for Kathryn's touch game. Today was the start of my injury prevention rather than treatment program.

MTB Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 30.0 km (2:40 / km)

Afternoon. Trafalgar to Delburn.

Rode home from Trafalgar on the Merida. Legs a bit tired but still enjoyed the ride. Quite a lot of climbing left me tired by the end.
