Orienteering 50:00 [3] 6.0 km (8:20 / km)

Simon and I arrived in Trondheim at 11am after the overnight train from Orebro in Sweden. The sleeper car was pretty comfortable with just two people, and certainly an enjoyable way to travel. We changed trains in the morning in Ostersund Sweden, before a scenic 3.5hr trip across the mountains to Trondheim. After a brief stop our new home in Rosenborg Youth Hostel we headed out with Wendy, Vanessa and Jasmine for a terrain taster.

WOC Long Distance training 1- Solemsasen
I did a short warm up out to #3 and started from there. The achilles seemed a bit unhappy and I was scared to start into the forest. Once I got going it really started to enjoy it. Yes the terrain was very soft, but not ankle rolling and rocky and spiky like at Oringen. The first few legs were probably the hardest and when I got into the marshes I was surprised to see how dry and fast they were. I finished the session feeling very happy about the Trondheim terrain and realised I probably didn't need to be as apprehensive as I had been.

Surprised by how the corked L quad felt I decided to try a ride. The weather cleared up in the arvo and it was actually really nice conditions for riding. I headed through the city then NW trying to stay near the river until I got to the edge of town. I fluked upon some XC ski trails, and heaps of other tracks in the forest. The elbow was still a bit tender but the trails were too good to resist so I started following the 15km circuit. The forest was relatively dry on this side of town, but the trail was underwater in a few places. Really enjoyed the ride and couldn't resist stopping at Expresso House for a final coffee before leaving Orebro.

Sad to leave the OSK Ungdom Clubhouse today. Probably the best place I've stayed for orienteering considering its size, was dry, had 150 TV channels, was dry, had proper kitchen, was dry, and was only 2mins walk to the Oringen centre. I certainly didn't envy the campers!!
