Road Cycling race 1:33:42 [5] 64.33 km (1:27 / km) +105m 1:27 / km
ahr:187 max:250 shoes: Chiru Radium

While I haven't been on the bike much I was keen to do this race and there was going to be a good turnout to make it interesting. I worked the night shift and was going to just hang out at Maccas and drink coffee until the 10am start, but then decided to head home for a quick 90min sleep.
The handicap race had about 7 start groups. I was off 17mins with two groups behind including scratch off 21mins. I felt the lack of racing or even bunch riding and didn't feel that comfortable. Just after Glengarry, Rob Monk from Warragul clipped my back wheel and I got to hear the terrible sound of flesh on bitumen. I, and two others stopped while the rest of the bunch continued. There were a few cars around and Monk was pretty shaken so they decided to take him to hospital.
I got back on the bike in time to jump into the scratch group. Battled to stay on the back to the finish but never challenged in the sprint. The race ended up being won by the zero group and Scatch never caught the group I started with.
While I felt like I was working hard, I hope my HR data is faulty as it was up around 250bpm for the first 30mins.

The aftermath- Monk is in hospital with a broken pelvis. bugger. And on the ride home after the race another bloke I know from Warragul had his front forks snap and he's also in hospital. Not a good day.

slow roll back to Morwell from Traralgon after deciding it was way to far to ride back from Glenmaggie and still go to work tonight.

late morning run with Kathryn to Mirboo Nth via Darlimurla and the rail trail, and back on an extended route. Never set the trails on fire but a solid effort. I cracked bang on 2hrs but a crunchie bar got me to the finish. I think Kathryn may finally have passed rock bottom and her health is on the way back.

morning commute to work. Probably haven't done too many sessions in my life earlier than this one. But it is nice to get some training done before work and not a bad morning for riding.

commute home from work. It was been a cracker warm day but by the evening the wind had turned quite cold and I had to ride straight into it. I think this was a PW for the ride. Hopefully I can make the commute more regularly on my day shifts.

morning paddle after nightshift. Nice morning but I wasn't particularly inspired. Felt pretty weak too.

afternoon ride to Mirboo North for a coffee, then out on the Grand Ridge and back. Was nice and sunny when I started but cool and windy when I finished. Legs didn't come to the game, but may have had something to do with my front brake getting loose and rubbing (didn't realise till I finished)

quick run after the overtime call, and before leaving for work. Didn't have much time but nice to do something. Legs were feeling pretty good considering.
