scottish relays

good terrain and enjoyable course, but physically this was just a bit too much for me after saturdays race. held things together technically pretty well for most of the course after clive sent me out in the lead on second leg, but when i got passed by Andrew Llewellyn midway round, it was on a big long uphill slog, and I just couldn't respond... got a bit demoralised after this, and then made a four minute miss on a tricky number 15. got caught by INT (Ben Hartmann) and this actually made me get my act together, and instead of letting him pass me I pushed on an stayed ahead for the remaining 10 controls through to the finish.

Ewan raced well to hold off Murray and secure a silver medal for AROS, but we were well beaten by NOC.

scottish championships

enjoyable orienteering on a really demanding area. really good course planning.

scottish terrain is so much tougher than english. i found it physically very hard indeed;

i think the travelling over the last fortnight in between BOC and the Scottish Champs really took the edge of my running however; while I didn't bonk, at no point did I feel like I had a second gear; it was just a case of going through the motions and plodding around. nevertheless, a good experience and proper orienteering.

really impressed with Clive Parry's race after his 10 months in Australia! the boy is in good shape!

Morning trot out from hotel in Madison after a rest day yesterday spent in my hotel room doing post production on the photographs. It's strange how a day of no activity and sitting at a desk leads to me feeling crap when running the following morning - felt lethargic and niggly. Good to get it done though and felt ready for a long day travelling.
