Kingston Breakfast Run
started with Dan and pacemaker Paulc, first 5 miles were a struggle, was feeling pretty negative about the whole thing and was just trying to hang on to the boys really. slipped about 10 metres behind them at the turn around, but this turned out to be a good thing as i was able to zone out for a couple of miles and things started to feel a bit more comfortable. at the halfway stage i decided to return to my pre race plan of picking up the pace to try and run 6.30/mile for the second half, this went ok up until around 13 miles, then at the turn around back into kingston i had to really focus to hold my pace and form - there was a strong headwind and a kind of semi hail storm. did ok, last 1/2 mile was hard and my legs were complaining, and finished fairly slow. was surprised to see Dan finish really close behind me, fair play, he must have really picked it up over the past two miles and its looking good for a sub 3hr marathon in 4 weeks time.
i guess i can be fairly happy with todays run, i don't think i got my pre-race quite right, i should know by now that i need 2.5hrs between eating and racing, and only really gave myself 1.5hrs. first 3 miles i felt a little heavy and bloated although this passed. didn't set the world on fire by any means, but i ran to plan and its another marker ticked off.
with warm up and warm down included, that's another 20 miler in the bag. last long run is next weekend then the taper begins.
