Orienteering race (Flying Pig TT Long Gr) 1:32:27 intensity: (7:25 @1) + (12:42 @2) + (24:38 @3) + (42:56 @4) + (4:46 @5) *** 8.73 km (10:35 / km) +289m 9:05 / km

gotta keep reminding myself that I feel good about my race. just because someone beats me doesn't mean I had a bad race.
I had a rough time keeping any speed for the first 4 or 5 controls, I was pretty out of it. I almost messed up 1 but other than that I ran clean. I even enjoyed the long legs for once because they gave me a chance to run on a trail and mostly downhill, too. on my way out of 10 on the trail I stepped on a rock in a puddle and twisted my R ankle. i tried to run off the sharp pain as quick as possible but I couldn't, so I ended up having to walk it off until nearly halfway through the campground which was frustrating because I wanted to run it. also that finish chute was horrendous. it was steeper than any hill I've run hills on lately.

overall i actually enjoyed it out there. I of course wish I ran more in the beginning, but at least I had a clean run and wasn't running through a mental breakdown for once

it went

I made some dumb route choices, and one nav mistake.
On the way to 1 I went around the building the wrong way because I couldn't make out if there was a staircase in the circle or not and I didn't notice that the wall wasn't very long to the east, so I ran around the building with the mentality of playing it safe, thinking I was potentially losing 10 seconds to maybe save a minute. Turns out I just lost 10 seconds for no reason.
On the way to 3 I had planned to do what I did but cutting corners a lot more. Thing is, I started almost running up the hill under that semicircular building, and by the time I realized I was missing the turn I wanted to take, I should've just run around the buildings to the north and attacked 3 from above.
For 9 I didn't realize that trail between the buildings had a railing, so I definitely lost time because of having to hop that railing (when I say hop, I mean carefully climb over so I don't slip/trip).
Going to 10 I accidentally drifted into the better route choice, I originally wanted to go between th ebuildings more to the east but I started going the way I did and realized it was much better.
For 11 I thought that staircase would lead up to the platform 11 was on, but I thankfully noticed relatively quick that I had to go around. Still had to run up an extra hill and might've lost 30 seconds.

I had hoped to make it 20 mins or under, so I was 2 minutes slower than I wanted. I definitely could've made up 2 minutes at the speed I was going, but to be fair it's super difficult to run that perfectly clean on a race. I would've had to not have made the mistakes I pointed out and I would've had to optimize my routes a bit (cut corners, not look at the map unnecessarily, etc). For the fact I was having an axiety attack at the start line, it went well. I gotta remind myself I can't exactly compare to the others that much, since I know they're all much, much faster than me.

Running warm up/down 10:29 intensity: (12 @1) + (1:13 @2) + (7:12 @3) + (1:52 @4) 1.27 km (8:14 / km)

lower back hurt like crazy for the first 20mins but that's on me

really didn't feel like driving anywhere, but also didn't wanna do a boring road run so I ran around our property and then down the neighborhood street when I got bored.

Running with Nadim

For the first 2.5mi or so I was doing fine, I just had no clue what pace I was going, I couldn't tell if I was slower or faster than usual, and then the rest of the way I was completely and utterly dying, especially the last 800m or so. Definitely gonna need a lot of rest, my legs are tired af from yesterday.
