Run race (Maratona Atlantica) 4:08:00 [5] 43.0 km (5:46 / km)
ahr:148 max:180 shoes: Brooks Trance 8

Whole race was along the sandy beaches on the West Coast of Portugal and my legs didn't like it at all. Started in soft sand and couldn't find any hard sand near the water. The waves were crashing over and so was pretty much running in the water for the first 6km or so. My hip flexors were getting really sore already but felt ok in about 10th place till about 12km. After then really started to struggle and just got slower and slower due to the pains in my legs. Also didn't have a lot of energy with not much supplies to refuel and after 25km needed to stop every 10 minutes or so to stretch hip flexors plus it was getting pretty hot with no cover. Knees and ankles were then getting sore after 30km and just struggled to the finish in 36th place in 4.08. Winner an hour ahead. At least now I know never to never enter another sand race.

Good area on the sand dunes near Porthcawl, although undergrowth overgrown. Lost 3 minutes on no.3 and that was about it. Ben Doherty beat me by a minute.

Nonsuch Park. Not a great effort today. Bit hungover and tired and couldn't get into it. Lost a lot of time on a fairly simple course. 10 minutes behind winner!
