Short workout to round out the week. 4x 800m at 3:00, with 2min rest between. I was worried these might be a struggle after yesterday’s run/hike, but they felt good.
My regular night shift starts tonight, so I’m saying goodbye to quality sleep for the next month and a half

Run/hike with my dad in the goat rocks. Started at the berry patch trailhead, and we did a loop with goat lake, Hawkeye peak, and Johnson. Lots of goats to be seen! This was my first time in the goat rocks, and they were amazing. Unfortunately it was a little cloudy, but I’d love to go hiking in the area again.

Chute 1 easy ride with the parents. My quads are tired from yesterday.
Happy 4th! This is my first time since 2014 being stateside for the 4th of July, which is pretty wild. I’m excited to see some fireworks.

My first Wednesday night worlds! I raced in cat 4 (the beginner category), which was probably about perfect for me. Thankfully, the course wasn’t super technical, but it was still twisting and bumpy enough that this was by far the fastest I’ve ever tried to ride on terrain with any sort of technicality. Most of the time I was pretty focused on just trying to keep my bike upright, but every so often there would be a flat or uphill straight section, where I could push. I came off my bike a handful of times (at least 5 times), but nothing major. Tried keeping up with the top woman in cat 4 when I could — her technical ability was just above mine and she really pushed on the straight bits, so it wasn’t easy staying with her. Finished a few seconds back, and I chatted with her for a bit. Turns out, she’s a runner too and this is her first season of these Wednesday races.

3k race at All Comers. I think my legs were just tired enough from the mountain biking that I needed some strong mental game to push hard, and the mental component wasn’t quite there today. Was aiming for 11:15 (90s), and went through the 1600m at 6:03, but I definitely kept slowing down from there. I think I’m capable of the 11:15, but tonight wasn’t it.

2x 10 min tempo. I’m sore from Sunday’s big hike, otherwise probably would have gone for the 12 minutes instead. Did this from coulon, and started out with a couple liberty kids for some motivation. Not a fantastic workout, but that’s largely due to the fatigue from this weekend. Right shin was feeling really toasty during the first tempo, so I stopped to stretch it out in between, and it ended up feeling much better for the second.
