Adventure Racing race 8:43:45 [3]

Castlewood AR with Bob, Robby, and Kate. Check her log for good descriptions and distances of each leg.

Had a really, really fun day. It had been waaaay too long since I'd done an AR with the team.

We didn't clear the course which is a bummer since I just found out that Kate has never cleared a course before. That will be a priority next year.

And it's a bummer since I screwed up the second CP on the first O-section, and that hurt us. The terrain was super-flat (literally only one contour line) and I think the map may have been old - the vegetation on the map seemed to be wrong and I think there was a trail missing, but maybe it was just me. Either way, it was my mistake. Not sure we would have had enough time anyway, but still I hated to make that mistake. Other than that, our nav was fairly good.

Felt pretty good all day. The Skratch Labs drinks are really good, and the Feed Zone Portables will be with me at every race - delicious, no stomach issues, and good energy throughout the day.

I did lag a little behind at the end on the bike, but since I haven't been on the bike much at all, that was expected. Kage was an animal on the bike at the end, and it was a struggle to keep up. Next time she's towing me.

We raced well as a team (like we always do) making decisions together and helping each other when needed. But we need to transition faster. I'm not sure why we suck so badly with transitions.

The single track was a blast, and there was a lot more of it in this race than a lot of races. So much fun.

We didn't place very highly (48th our of 62 overall and 8th out of 8 in our division), but that's never what it's about for us.

Perfect weather. Ran Binder: the connector, Red Loop, and connector back to the van .

Note

Had a cold for about a week. Didn't train much for a week, and ate a lot of shit. Feeling mostly better.
