schools champs challenge.. junior girls course
matt, murray, pat S and I had to pre run the schools individual courses.. so we set ourselves a challenge.. matt had to beat the senior boys by 6 mins, muzz had to beat the senior girls by 10 mins, pat had to beat the junior boys by 6 mins and i had to beat the junior girls by 15... the two who were the furthest from the target times had to buy beers for the others.. none of us beat our target times and pat didnt even beat the junior boys (this resulted in a penalty round of beers for him... admittedly his task was the hardest and the junior boys ran some astonishing times)... matt had to buy the other round as his margin over the senior boys was next smallest.. good challenge although we badly underestimated the quality of the schools athletes.

vic long champs.. had a good run.. lost about 1-1.5 minute on 5, 7 and 16 apart from that it was perfect... thought it would be a top 5 run but the field was stronger than i expected

terrible race... stuffed nearly everyone of the first 5 controls... finished off poorly and ran into a barbed wire fence at full pelt which resulted in a tetanus shot and fucked pair of o pants.. ended up mispunching the control after the fence incident.. great course though

was planning to do a bit more.. but it started raining so i piked.

highlight of the weekend was seeing the cats smash the pies on saturday night.. nothing better than seeing that eddy maguire having a bit of a cry.. haha
have again put far too much money on the brownlow this year. hopefully mark lecras can get up over the other west coast drop kicks and help me win back a bit of the money ive lost on the last few brownlows. then hopefully the cats smash the saints by more than 39.5 points on saturday and i can get back on top.

calves were like piano strings after the run this morning so i just took the course at tarrengower slowly as a training exercise.. really nice and green

i completely fucked it today. went out way too hard trying to stay with a guy from essendon who was clearly in another league to me.. i fell apart before the top of the hill and really bled time and places over the last 2km.
last AV run for the year, the goal for the team this season has been to stay in division 1 in the athletics victoria cross country series, to do this we really had to finish ahead of Melbourne University today.
...despite falling to peices the team manage to hold onto 8th and relegate melbourne uni to division 2.. one of the highlights of the year

jog to loosen up before tomorrow..think im going to be rooted tomorrow night.. going down to melbourne at 6.30am running the tan relays and jumping back in the car and going to tarrengower for the last southern cross series in the afternoon.. then settling down for some cold beers whilst watching geelong smash collingwood..
..cant wait for a dogs vs cats grand final.. if it happens i might have to abandon my course at the middle champs so i dont miss any of it ;)

easy-does-it jog around browns reef, with heaps of stops along the way to do stretches. tight as sin today, i had to do something to work the piano strings out of my hammys.

also downloaded my garmin and worked out that the 10km pb i thought i ran yesterday was actually a 34.57, rather than the 35.20 i had estimated. so 3 pbs in two days.. pretty happy with that

Nearly missed the start after racing to the dunnys to do a last minute shit. but as the guy behind me in the line to the toilet said "its better than the alternative". I got to the start with about 20 seconds to go and i thought the other guy would have missed the race for sure, was pretty suprised to see him on the podium after the race. he finished 2nd.
anyway started out pretty well and had to hold myself back for the first 5 or 6 kms, went through the 10km split in a pb(34.57) and still felt great. but things went to shit at about the 12km mark. started to suffer and ran some pretty slow kms. saw the target time of 75' disappear, which was disheartening, my pain was compounded by liam adams and his mates jogging past me talking and laughing on their sunday long run..
anyway found a bit of a second wind at about th 16km mark and finished off pretty well. had a good kick in the last 2km and passed 4 or 5 guys. sprinted my guts out in the finish chute and got a melbourne uni guy (our rival team) by a second or two, but couldnt quite get phil noden.. he ended up 2 or 3 seconds in front of me. turned out to be a great team result (5th) which should keep us in div one next year.

also the race was a measured to be about 300m long by about three or four different gps's so im claiming my sub 76' target time ;)

just a quick cruise to get the legs moving for yestreday... felt mostly good but the dreaded smyth toe was lingering..it better not rear its ugly head tomorrow

did a tempo 3km(10.40) at the lake to get the legs accustomed to the speed i want them to be going on sunday.. had to cut the warm down short as i got a ryan smyth style sore toe.. ill have to watch that

did the local event course for the upcoming local event on saturday at mt alexander. controls were already out and i decided not to run on saturday cos of the half on sunday and mt alexander is always steep.. just cruised it.. nice forest at this time of the year.. leg 3 will really sort the men from the rice puddings though ;)

Cycling - Road 1:05:00 [4] 21.5 km (3:01 / km) +900m 2:30 / km

took the bike down to mt alexander to go for a ride after the run. never been up alexander from the south so i did the complete up and over and back up and over. tougher than i had anticipated, i cracked like an egg on the way back up, and jaysus going down that last km or so on south side is hairy, its about 15% and choc full of potholes
