2015 World Cup - Round 2 - Middle Race

My first race back in Swedish forest in nearly thirteen years. Quite a different start to the day compared to yesterday, with more than a 4 hour wait in quarantine. As for the race, first control was taken cautiously but then I came unstuck on the second and lost 4min. 3,4 and 5 weren't as bad but were still unclean and I lost more time. My route choice to six wasn't great but I managed to keep better map contact. This continued from 7 through 12, better contact but still small errors. I was caught by Leon at this point and stayed with him thought to 19, happy that I could actually move through forest at a decent pace. And then my race ended. Coming down the hill from 19 I rolled my ankle and could all but manage a hobble back to the finish.

2015 World Cup - Round 2 - Sprint Race

Not the great race from me today. Clean through the first four controls. Didn't choose a good route to control five and managed to misplace my location during the re-folding of the overly large double page, plastic covered map. This lost me about 50sec and put me in a unhappy mood for the rest of the race (and day). Lost another 20sec with a poor route choice to control eight, despite seeing the better option. Lost 5sec on each of 11 (cut across late), 12 (around building the wrong side) and 17 (control didn't register so had to run back).

Despite my poor performance, there were some upsides. It was an great experience to run through the streets and have people not only know what you are doing but also cheer you on (even got a few shouts for Australia).

Shame the event was voided in the end especially given the cause.

2015 London Park Race - Crystal Palace Park
Last chance to get out and have a decent hit out before the World Cup races this weekend. I ran quite well on the whole, although managed to drop 50sec at control six, party due to me only setting a lazy bearing coming off the path and partly due to confusion over the unmarked large fallen tree near the control.
A good day for it, warm and sunny, and finished second. Not a bad start to the series.
