Gentlemans ride with Searlo (who had already been for a run today!) round the lake. Definitely gentlemans pace but all hills felt like Mt Ventoux after last weeks races and probably particularly yesterday. Twas hot but good to roll round and yak with the Master. A few people out and about.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Yellow ones

Longish run to start which I ran with BA! Novel. Good yak with MFR people at start and pleased to find out I had made the real chasing start, or red start group as I prefer to call it, unlike the losers behind me. Losers.

Orienteering race 1:56:09 intensity: (1:14 @0) + (2:32 @1) + (25:49 @2) + (1:10:31 @3) + (16:03 @4) 11.59 km (10:01 / km) +543m 8:07 / km

Day 5 Beechworth Mines (or something like that). Turned out to be an epic after course setters didnt measure course right and they were way too long (I suspect measured 1:15 when map was 1:10 - schoolboy error really). Even without length error course was pretty brutal taking in every climb they could find. I did quite enjoy it though after a while realising it was a war of attrition and just pushing on 1 control at a time. Lowlight was tripping crossing the ravine and landing on left knee and right elbow. Lay on ground swearing wondering if had broken knee cap for a while but then started up again.
The good news at the finish was there had been plenty of DNFs (fair enough) which added to my long list of scalps for the 5 days.

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

ON time to start today - woohoo!

Orienteering race 1:01:24 intensity: (1:05 @0) + (1:51 @1) + (11:17 @2) + (37:18 @3) + (9:53 @4) 6.76 km (9:05 / km) +118m 8:21 / km

Rowdy Flat, Day 4. I should be able to do well here being technical mining but I just havent managed it yet and certainly didnt today. Exit direction from controls here so important and basically when I rushed out of controls (about half the legs) I was ordinary but when I had a plan and good exit direction out of flags I was good. Had trouble towards the end with seeing printing as sweat on map took effect. Took a fair while.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Yellow ones

Classic 5 days as early mornings start to take effect - sprinted to make 8.19am start only to find out it was 8.15am. Just made it and made a few start helpers grumpy in the process.

Orienteering race 56:29 intensity: (1:04 @0) + (26 @1) + (1:48 @2) + (23:12 @3) + (29:59 @4) 7.44 km (7:35 / km) +290m 6:21 / km

Day 3 of 5 Days at Kanagaroo Xing. Fun. A bit clunky early on as I got into the map but I was determined to be better than yesterday and was. An early miss of 30s or so after being distracted by Geoff Stacey and a Malungs junior who were running round madly. Otherwise smooth. Lost 30s late in course when altered course due to some boulders which were actually on map as rocky ground. Enjoyable - how orienteering should be.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Yellow ones

Longish jog to start and amazingly I was early so did some prancing with Constable Frogga (I'm not as good at it as he is).

Orienteering race 1:12:08 intensity: (9 @0) + (32 @1) + (12:25 @2) + (31:44 @3) + (27:18 @4) 8.48 km (8:30 / km) +295m 7:15 / km

Day 2 of 5 Days - some area south of Mt Pilot - Burnboogie? My worst day. Forest was scrappy and rocky and I didnt have the skill or determination to push through. Long 1st leg during which I got passed by Jim's nephew (1 min), Constable Frogga (2 min) and Craney (3 min). Simon (4 min) and some random swede (5 min?) passed me as I came out of 1. Bit demoralising. Plodded round to make sure I was in chasing start only to find out control 8 had been misplaced (it had been put back in correct spot by the time I got there) and course was cancelled.

swimming 5:00 [1]

Did a whopping 4 laps at Beechworth pool but wanted to put it in as for me, in swimming terms, thats a marathon.

Orienteering warm up/down 5:00 [2] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Yellow ones

Missed start due to parenting (thanks Miss Jones for taking over) so just ran straight to start and got slotted in immediately (thanks Leigh Privett).

Orienteering race 50:25 intensity: (18 @0) + (19 @1) + (11 @2) + (6:01 @3) + (36:06 @4) + (7:30 @5) 8.38 km (6:01 / km) +122m 5:37 / km

Day 1 of 5 Days - Gully/Spur map near Chiltern. Surprised myself by running pretty well making a few scrappy mistakes towards the end as fatigue set in. Largest mistake was barging out of one control on compass but starting to hesitate thinking I should be going down not up. Checked compass 3-4 times while running before stopping, sjaking compass and watching needle swing round complete 180. Didnt use that compass again for 5 days - think it was the one I got off Hoggster so I blame him.

Running 52:37 intensity: (24 @0) + (7:41 @1) + (20:31 @2) + (18:34 @3) + (5:27 @4) 9.53 km (5:31 / km) +239m 4:54 / km
ahr:137 max:164 shoes: Pegasus28 White/Blue

Cruisey run with Hoggster thru Gossan, Brice Ridge, BM reserve and finished up Aranda Hill. Felt a bit sluggish, presumably from all yesterdays eating, but then felt better heading up Aranda Hill. Few discussions about 6FT training.
