Orienteering race 2:33:53 [4] *** 9.93 mi (15:30 / mi) +603m 13:02 / mi
26c shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4 - GRAY

Westchester A meet
Blue Long 11.8km, 465m

I'm pretty happy with this race, especially because of the amount of rebound after the middle. The weather was much cooler at ~70F. I made a lot of errors, but no major blow ups, just a few minutes here and there. and I even won one split! I started off at a pretty good jogging pace, which held out through 7. Then 7-14 I got kind of discouraged and did a lot of walking, even though it was going mostly well. I think the series of long legs close to each other got in my head. I perked up again after 15 with a bunch of short legs and was able to keep up a good pace through the end of the course. I think stopping for water helped too, i stopped 4 times.

A few take aways from this weekend:
1) I need to work on my mental fortitude. I CAN run this far at a good pace, but I convince myself I cant or that I'll get lost if I do. I think the poor perforamce at middle is what got in my head this time around.
2) I should bring ecaps to A meets. The heat the first two days definitely had my electrolytes imbalanced.
3) I should do more long runs. I've gotten lazy and not done many runs over 6 miles in a while. Blue longs/classics are almost always over 6 miles.
4) DVOA puts on a great event. Thanks to all involved!
