Orienteering race 2:33:53 [4] *** 9.93 mi (15:30 / mi) +603m 13:02 / mi
26c shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4 - GRAY

Westchester A meet
Blue Long 11.8km, 465m

I'm pretty happy with this race, especially because of the amount of rebound after the middle. The weather was much cooler at ~70F. I made a lot of errors, but no major blow ups, just a few minutes here and there. and I even won one split! I started off at a pretty good jogging pace, which held out through 7. Then 7-14 I got kind of discouraged and did a lot of walking, even though it was going mostly well. I think the series of long legs close to each other got in my head. I perked up again after 15 with a bunch of short legs and was able to keep up a good pace through the end of the course. I think stopping for water helped too, i stopped 4 times.

A few take aways from this weekend:
1) I need to work on my mental fortitude. I CAN run this far at a good pace, but I convince myself I cant or that I'll get lost if I do. I think the poor perforamce at middle is what got in my head this time around.
2) I should bring ecaps to A meets. The heat the first two days definitely had my electrolytes imbalanced.
3) I should do more long runs. I've gotten lazy and not done many runs over 6 miles in a while. Blue longs/classics are almost always over 6 miles.
4) DVOA puts on a great event. Thanks to all involved!

Orienteering race 42:08 [4] *** 3.12 mi (13:31 / mi) +209m 11:11 / mi
14c shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4 - GRAY

Westchester A Meet
Relay, Loop 3: 4.6km, 170m

Much cooler today, around 60F with a light rain. It went much better, I had some energy, I was well hydrated. The relay atmosphere was actually really cool, but also kind of stressful waiting for your teamate to come in. Also hard to determine when to warm up, I think i did it a little too early. There was also a spectator loop for everyone halfway through, and an announcer, so it actually felt like a community event.

Nav went pretty well, just a few bobbles in the circle. Jogged 90% with just walking up a few hills.

Thanks to teammates Z-runner and Syd!

Orienteering race 1:35:30 [5] *** 4.51 mi (21:11 / mi) +289m 17:40 / mi
21c shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4 - GRAY

Westchester A meet
Blue Middle, 5.4k 280m

Pretty rough for me today. The navigation actually went mostly well, which I was really happy with as I still find the rocks/cliffs difficult to navigate. Still had 2 big blunders on 13 and 18. Both I got really close before convincing myself I was wrong and turning off in the wrong direction. After about halfway I was just beat and had no energy, I didn't even attempt to jog for most of the second half. Energy sucking heat and humidity (~90F out). Was wishing for water about 6 controls before the water control.

Orienteering race 20:19 [5] ** 2.54 mi (8:00 / mi) +14m 7:52 / mi
21c shoes: Sense ProPulse (Salomon)

Westchester A Meet
Blue Sprint: 3.6km, 50 m

Nothing too tricky. 2 mistakes, left 10 on a sidewalk headed east instead of north and didn't realize it for far too long.

Then, i missed the finish shoot, just did not see it even though it was pretty obvious, everyone got to watch me make that mistake. Now I know that scouting the finish actually helps, but we weren't supposed to for this one.

Orienteering 58:02 [3] *** 3.08 mi (18:50 / mi) +223m 15:23 / mi
11c shoes: Sense ProPulse (Salomon)

Westchester A-meet
Model Course at Ward Pound Ridge.

A mix of running around and walking to observe the rocks and cliffs. Made a number of errors, so it was a good reminder to slow down and make sure I know where I am instead of running around getting lost. Hopefully it translates to today.
