4-hour Nav-X at Almaden Quicksilver

Map (w/route): https://photos.app.goo.gl/e4qnhMtRcNTwsEh99

This was... a bit crazy. Yeah... the climb is real, and to get a picture of the terrain, all you need to know is that there were probably one or two 60+ point controls that *didn't* require you to fight tooth and claw to get to them. In a nutshell, the hills were big, the vegetation was bloody thicccc (60% of white forest was medium to light green, and don't even get me started on what light green *actually* looked like), and the map was really ehh. Still, I think it was a good run, and I'm gonna be surprised if someone one-ups it (I put literally everything into it).

Recap:
Beginning went meh, 'cause for some reason I was having trouble getting used to the scale (even though it's standard, wth?). Overshot 63, had a blast crashing through the dense forest towards 73, proceeded to undershoot 73 by a few meters (due to selective cliff mapping agggg), and then went on my merry way up the fifteen contour ridge. Felt a little bit lightheaded on the upcoming fast, navigation-intensive portion (probs due to lack of sleep), but I didn't mess anything up. I originally considered getting 75 and 66 from 52, but the nasty terrain convinced me to leave it as a "maybe" for later (sorta regretted this at 41 when I saw the hill behind which 66 was). Followed Bambi's herd for a while, and they were actually hella helpful when it came to finding nice passages through the icky forest. The 54-100-80 loop felt awesome and pretty fast, and except for giving a random hiker a heart attack en route to 63, it was going quite nicely. 81 was hella scuffed, both due to sketchy clearing mapping and general bleh-ness of the terrain there. Started feeling really wrecked around 44 and 72, and it was only after a GU and a chill section up till 53 that I decided to try to tack on 66 and 75 to my original plan. I sorta took a gamble that the forest leading to 66 would be okay, and except for being slippery and poison oak infested, it was pretty okay. Started running out of time at 75 tho (1:15 remaining I think), and then we don't talk about whatever the hell happened between 75 and 62 (basically, there was a map flip between these two areas, and the area around 62 was badly mapped, and i probably lost 3+ minutes doing dumb stuff there). 46's climb took forever, 60 had a ton of unmapped clearings around it, and I was gradually getting more and more wrecked. I was eyeing 70 and 82 and really wanted to tack them on to my route, but I was really running out of time. The climb to 22 triggered the first of my cramps (new record: 3:15 to get my first cramps!), but it didn't cause too many problems today and actually wasn't that bad. The "trail" to 67 was THE MOST ANNOYING THING EVER because it was basically an undergrowth infested terrace that was difficult to even find from this angle, and I think I lost the last of my energy right there. I somehow rolled down the hill to 82 and from there I just sorta blindly contoured to 70, dreading the climb that'd follow. Those last 15+ contours ended me completely, and I was happy I could crawl up the hill and finish w/ 6 minutes overtime (blasting Whitney Houston to maintain my sanity somewhat) before I conked out. I honestly don't know if I've ever gotten so wrecked by a Nav-X... the terrain just simply hated me. But at the same time, the only way you can improve on this is if your endurance doesn't get crushed by the constant 15 contour climbs, and if your body is okay with getting shredded by impassable chaparral, and if your navigation skills are good enough to be good with a slightly dated map.

Moral of the story: learn kickboxing so I can put the vegetation in its place next time (that or bring a lightsaber).

exploring a new area + a new park, and taking awful routes because I decided just to memorize the area instead of using a map... still this was a blast

gotta say that this has been an interesting past few days... I think my mental state has gotten a lot better as compared to what it was a few weeks earlier, and even though this is *not* what I pictured my senior year to be like, I honestly like it a lot... :))

nice and relaxing run, exploring some cool new places... haven't had a relaxing run in aaaages... sorta rolled my ankle a mile in 'cause I wasn't paying attention, but it wasn't anything bad

also... I heard Waves of Blue by Majid Jordan once on my car radio and now it's forever stuck in my head for some reason...

Note

oaurghvuslfrghwusl i feel like i just got hit in the head with a hammer... on the bright side, I can now calculate the angular velocity of that hammer, so I guess that's a good thing? all in all, the double AP Physics C tests went about how i expected them to go... Mechanics seemed nice and E&M was brutal but could turn out one of two ways...
