Orienteering race 1:27:00 [4] *
shoes: Inov-8 trail shoes

Full report when I have the map with me. Made a couple of really annoying mistakes, firstly I couldn't find a control in an area of rough open/forest, there was nothing around to locate off so wasted a lot of time. Second huge mistake involved a loss of concentration and turning off at the wrong trail. Very annoying, fitness wasn't great due to foot injury layoff.

Regular ice on my foot today

Note
(injured)

Left foot really painful today, have iced it regularly but not entirely sure what I can do with it not knowing the cause. Surely it can't be a delayed response to the longer distance run on thursday?

Orienteering race 1:04:54 [3] ** 4.2 km (15:27 / km) +100m 13:49 / km
(injured) shoes: Very Old with Holes

EVENT: TVOC district event at Coombe Hill, Wendover
COURSE: Green, 4.2 km, 100 m climb, 12 controls
TERRAIN: Mixed woodland (white and green) and rough open
MY RUN: Not so much a run as a hobble resulting from freak foot injury. It felt ok at points but generally it impeded me severely. First control was a nightmare was maybe thinking more about my foot than the map, it should have been an easy one ttoo. Spiked controls 2 and 3 then took the longest alternative route choice possible to 4, it took ages, really need to be bolder and just plunge into the forest which on post-race observation was obvious and not that tricky. Blundered badly at control 5, didn't see obvious control beside path. Impressed myself with control 6 took a bearing with selected catching feature and hit control well. controls 7 to 9 flowed well. Control 10 once again missed obvious control, got frustrated, then took wrong path for control 11 and had to make large double back on myself. Then I realised that I had dropped my control descriptions and panicked slightly about getting the right control.
Overall there were good moments, mixed in with lots of areas which taught me more and which hopefuly I will be better at next time. Need to think more about route choice and take a few more chances, also must maintain concentration.

Foot really painful at the end, not sure doing this event was such a great idea, however did get a great view from the top and as usual had a good day out with the friendly OUOC crowd
RESULTS: 30 out of 40 (Chris M beat me walking!)

Note
(rest day)

Right knee feeling fine again today, will have a relaxing day before the district event at Wendover tomorrow.

Note
(injured)

Not amused, the back right side of my left foot suddenly started hurting for no reason, spent the rest of the day limping around london. Large bruised patch has developed, can't think what I could have done!?!

Friday Jun 2, 2006 #

Note
(injured)

Right thigh doesn't feel any worse today, just a bit of bruising which will go. Right knee actually felt really sore last night, better today although still weak and sore, will give it a couple of days rest before orienteering on Sunday. Generally feeling very good today maybe its because its sunny!

Running 1:30:00 [3] 9.5 mi (9:28 / mi)
shoes: Very Old with Holes

Wow, that was an awesome session, I think that was easily the longest run I have ever done. Joe and Kat are a lot fitter than me and really pushed me on which was great. Right thigh didn't hurt much at all, right knee and shin felt pretty sore towards the end though. Really enjoying my training at the moment.
