Adventure Racing race (Kinetic Urban) 1:37:15 [5] 23.0 km (4:14 / km)

0800 - The 5th race in the Kinetic Urban series, this one at the Waterfall Estate near Kyalami. Great course, with all of it off road on the estate. Quite a bit of interpretive nav as well.

Team Cyanosis comprised of myself, Ryno and Clinton. We had a good one, starting off well on a mtb, run, mtb, run combo. Only 1 problem, when we overshot 1 cp on the 2nd mtb leg. Otherwise all good, and we were able to take splits on some of the other top teams who were doing the combos in different orders. Knew we would be in the lead starting the last padlde and obstacle course as a result. The paddle turned into a wade and push, with me doing the deep-water spotting up front. Obstacle course was hard as a result of wet shoes.

Strong result in the end, with a 15-minute winning margin over Peptopro and Numa Optics. Nice turnout of 80 teams.

Bike stats were Tm 1:01:12, Dst 17.8, Av 17.4, Mx 41.2

Note

Organised the Protea Ridge MTBO event today. Not too strenuous as I could drive to almost all the controls.

Note

Back home in SA after a disappointing ARWC (full AP blog still coming).

Lots of sleep in the last few days and general lethargy. Lots of eating as well, so I'm now fat again.

Will take a few more days off to recover fully, then will start training properly in December. Have sort of started putting together a plan for the first quarter of next year... The first target is Sani2C and Cape Epic (3 weeks apart), so will focus on MTB. However, want to do better in the Sprint O' Series this year, so will need to keep X-training. The idea would be to have all the base work completed by mid-April for the start of the O' season. Have got Swazi Xtreme at the end of April, but then nothing else.

Haven't looked at the big AR events for next year. Will need to do so in the next few months and then decide on my 2010 plans and how they fit in with WOC, etc. The big big goal is WRC late in the year with Ryno. Have already sent off our entry and we should get in no problem.

Hiking (Grosse Mythen) 3:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (18:00 / km)

1000 - Hiked up to the top of the Grosse Mythen (just short of 2000m asl). Probably the last day of the season. Quite warm, there were even people in shorts and t-shirts up there (at the end of November!). Started at Ibergeregg, approx. 4km to the base and then the 45 switchbacks up to the top. Unfortunately the bar was closed, so we had to wait till we got back down for a snack.

Roller Blading (Lauerz See) 1:04:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Crazy Creek SP900

1000 - Back in Switzerland after a 3 day drive from Portugal. Short roller blading session along the Lauerz See, from the ice hall out and back and then a bit additional on the road near the quarry. Simply beautiful once again, although the road was a bit damp from mist.

Dissapointing result as we never got going, Debbie being injured before the race. Finished a very low 22nd.

More details to follow when I have the race splits.
